11 Things I Miss About 4H Camp

Summer isn't the same without camp.

11 Things I Miss About 4H Camp
Ross County 4H

1. Who's got...THE GOZMO?!

The gizmo is a fancy rock that has to be passed between each meal. consequences for having the gizmo during a meal range from dancing ad singing to a counselor having to run to vespers, as well as receiving a prize.

2. Meeting first year campers

First year campers were my favorite because they are new to camp and most of the time extremely eager to be there. I also loved the campers that were ready to listen and learn.

3. Making a fool out of myself

4H camp was the place to act like a fool and not be judged hard core for it. I liked to call it, Silly responsibility because being goofy and having a good time carried the same weight as being responsible.

Yes, that IS ketchup covering my face..

4. Line Dancing

I miss line dancing and teaching dances the most. If anyone wants to learn a dance to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" or "Cotton Eye Joe" I'm your girl! I know way more than those two, just try me!

5. Camp songs

I really miss leading songs like "REESE PEANUT BUTTER CUP" and "The Bear Song".

6. Vespers

Vespers is the beautiful place at the end of a really long hike, and it's not beautiful because it is the end of a really long hike. It is the place where we made new friends, and kept the old because one is silver and the other's gold. It is also the place where I learned a circle is round and that every color of the rainbow relies on the others.

7. Campfire

I miss the songs, the Great chief, and the mountains, just as much as I miss the skits, chants and the fire. Campfire cannot be explained but with one word; exceptional. I feel as if the experience can be summed up into that word, although it is truly incredible.

8. Watching campers learn new things.

One of the best thing one can witness as a counselor is the joy and smiles of an accomplished camper. Whether it comes from learning the right moves, or catching the most critters for their tribe. Seeing others learn and smile are the reason I kept going back.

9. Camp Staff!

Camp staff is the reason camp is so awesome. While camp staff may change, their mind set, energy, and love for camp still remains! They make camp awesome, of course with the help of awesome camp directors!

10. ALLLLLIIIIIIIGAAATTTTTOOOOORRRRRRR!!!!!

This one should not need explanation... but incase it does.. I honestly miss walking up the hills at night, losing my voice and running out of air, screaming " AAAAALLLLLLIIIIIIGGGGAAATTTOORRRR!!!" and waiting to hear the echo of the other hills.

11. The Family I gained by being a camp counselor for 4 years.

Being with almost the same people for four years you become a family. Every year there is a mini crying session at the end of each camp for the friends that will not be returning the following year. I miss my camp family and going to roosters after camps. I hope they all had fun this year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
