11 Thank You's That I Didn't Say Enough To My Freshman Roommate

The freshman roommate search is a dreaded one. Should you put your fate in the random match up, creep on every girl on Facebook, or room with a friend? There isn't a perfect answer because there isn't a perfect roommate. Being out of the dorms now and having my own room I am looking back on what is was like to share a shoe box, I mean, dorm room, with another human being. I went for the online match first, and then at the end of the semester, I switched out to live with a friend. Moving in with my friend who I met first semester was probably one of the better choices I made my Freshman year but that's not to say it didn't come without its difficulties. All in all, you started as a girl who lived down the hall and ended as my roommate and best friend. Here is 11 thank you's that I never told you enough.

1. Thank you for believing in me.

You were my greatest pep talk when I had a bad day and my number one fan when something was going well.

2. Thank you for not getting mad when I yelled at you about the dishes.

Seriously, I would have washed them with your tooth brush if you yelled at me that much.

3. Thank you for never judging me.

I made my fair share of mistakes freshman year and you were always there to support, listen and laugh about it with me.

4. Thank you for being my shoulder to cry on.

No matter what was going on in my life I knew I always had the greatest support system sleeping on the bottom bunk.

5. Thank you for dealing with me every time I had a melt down.

This happened more than I would like to admit but you always handled it and made me feel calm. Between family, boys, grades and every other drama that I faced, you were always there to pick up the pieces.

6. Thank you for having random dance parties with me.

The disney throwbacks and dance moves that will hopefully never leave our freshman dorm are some of the best memories I have of our little home.

7. Thank you for not taking everything I said personally.

I took out a lot of my frustration on you but you never gave up on me. Thank you for not taking it to heart and still loving me regardless.

8. Thank you for helping me conquer one of the hardest years of my life so far.

The transition was difficult at times but you made it so much better.

9. Thank you for being completely honest with me.

Even when I didn't want to hear it.

10. Thank you for helping me open my heart.

You have the biggest heart and you always opened it up to anyone and everyone who needed it. You taught me to let love in - in all of it's forms.

11. Thank you for being my best friend.

We fought like sisters, but we loved like best friends. You were the best part of my freshman year and you made sure to love me, even when I didn't deserve it.

Although we don't live together anymore, somehow we have managed to become even closer. You are my rock, and my forever friend. Thank you for putting up with all of the good, the bad, and the ugly phases that were displayed throughout our time as roommates. Not everyone gets lucky enough to say their freshman roommate is one of their future bridesmaids, but I sure did.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
