You made it through your first year of college, and now you're back home with the people and places you missed while you were away. After you meet up with your hometown friends and eat at your old favorite restaurants, you start to realize how much you actually miss being at school. Here's a list of 11 things that you miss about your freshman year of college.
1. Your roommate(s).
Whether you became best friends or just learned to tolerate each other, you will never forget your first college roommates. They were probably some of your first friends at school and the ones who helped you figure out how to live away from home.
2. Always having something to do.
Being bored at 3 a.m. was not a problem since almost everyone has that one person in their group that sleeps more during the day than at night. You could always count on someone being up and ready to go on an adventure at any time of the day.
3. Midnight food runs.
Being able to eat at any time of the day without any judgement was one of the many perks of being at school. And you probably weren't alone in wanting to go get food in the middle of the night, so a group food run was never out of question.
4. Waking up and remembering everything you did the night before.
Friday and Saturday mornings may not have always felt the best, but at least you were able to laugh at some of the things you got yourself into the night before. And if you woke up regretting half of the night, at least you had an interesting story to share with your friends later.
5. Your college friends.
The friends you met freshman year definitely made it a little easier to be away from your friends at home. Now that you are home, you realize how close you all got and how much you don't want to have to wait for the next few months to see them again.
6. Allnighters.
You may not miss the allnighters that were forced on you so you could finish that paper due at 8 a.m., but you do miss the nights spent staying up talking with your friends until sunrise. Whether you realized it or not, these were the nights that ultimately brought you closer together since conversations seem to get 10x deeper after midnight.
7. Your dorm room.
There were times when you hated everything about dorm living. When you first moved in, you compared your room to a jail cell because there was no room for anything and you had to stare at white brick walls. However, once you found a place for everything and hung up a couple pictures, you realized it wasn't that bad after all. Your dorm became the place you called home for eight months and now you have to pass it on to another group of lost freshmen.
8. Your friend's dorm.
Early in the year, you realized how much your friend's dorms became your dorm. You started storing food in their fridge and sleeping over when you were too tired to make it back to your room. If you were lucky, they left their door unlocked 24/7 and you may have even found yourself hanging out in their room when they weren't there.
9. The excitement your RA brought to your weekend activities.
You heard the knock on the door while doing things you shouldn't have been doing and the room goes silent while everyone rushes to hide everything that shouldn't be there. At the time, this was something you couldn't wait to get away from, but now it almost seems too easy to get away with everything.
10. Free entertainment provided by people coming home from parties.
On the nights you and your friends decided to stay in, you could always count on a group to come back around one in the morning and make your night a little more interesting. You know this happened a lot when you met the same person on at least five different nights and they still don't know who you are.
11. All the firsts you had.
From homecoming weekend to doing your own laundry, freshman year was the year you experienced a lot of things for the first time. You may have made a handful of mistakes and wish some things went differently, but it is the year that started your journey as a college student and you wouldn't trade it for anything.
Freshman year was full of meeting new people you now can't see living without and making memories that you'll never forget. Even though you'll miss a lot about school over the summer, before you know it you'll be back and ready to do it all over again sophomore year. Let the countdown begin!
