11 Song Lyrics To Fuel Your Summer
The Telegraph

It's summer (finally). And you know what that means! The weather is fabulous, and the music is even better. Shoutout to our deities, Rihanna and Beyoncé, for coming up with some of the best words to live by while we travel the globe, rediscover our bikini bods, and decompress from the strenuous school year we all just finished.

Since last summer, a lot has changed. Maybe you're in love, maybe you're not (sometimes that's even better), maybe you're on the adventure of a lifetime. Who knows? But the one thing we all have in common right now is that we need a killer playlist, with lyrics that don't just capture how we feel, but actually make us feel ~all of the feels~.

Here are the best 11 lyrics of the summer. They're passionate, they're wild and they're electric-- bound to energize you for the entirety of your summer.

1. "And everybody's watching her, but she's looking at you."

"This Is What You Came For" - Calvin Harris (feat. Rihanna)

If you don't identify as the "she" in this lyric, you seriously need to put on some heels and look in the mirror. If you can put yourself in "her" shoes, just for one fraction of a second, I swear you'll feel like the baddest b*tch in the world. Leave it to Rihanna to sing the single most empowering lyric of the summer.

2. "We have no apologies for being // Find me where the wild things are."

“Wild Things” - Alessia Cara*

You're fierce. You're wild. And the world is your jungle. This lyric should make you want to dance around in the middle of an enormous music festival, wearing nothing but an Aztec romper and a flower crown. Go out there and be you, unapologetically.

*Pro tip: watch the music video for Alessia Cara's own definition of what a "wild thing" actually is. Super cool insight.

3. "I fly so high, no ceiling, when I'm in my zone."

“Can’t Stop The Feeling” - Justin Timberlake

IF YOU CAN LISTEN TO THIS SONG AND NOT DANCE YOU HAVE NO SOUL. Okay, not actually, but c'mon- this is the ultimate summer jam, sung by none other than your elementary school middle school high school college adulthood #1 celebrity crush of all time, Justin Timberlake. And we all know which "zone" he's talking about. Use this summer to rediscover your zone, and stay in it for as long as possible, because you can literally do anything there.

4. "It was a big big world, but we thought we were bigger."

"7 Years" - Lukas Graham

This pretty much sums up your entire youth in one lyric. And that's what's so special about being young- it feels like you're on top of the world. This is the only time in your life when you have no real responsibilities, and you can take advantage of every crazy and spontaneous opportunity life throws at you. So do it! When you're an adult, don't look back on this summer and wish you'd done anything other than exactly what you did.

5. "I wonder what would happen if we went back and put up a fight."

"Never Forget You" - Zara Larsson

We alllllll know what this feels like. It's okay to reminisce a little, and even hang out in your nostalgia for a few minutes. But don't let it consume you! Set aside a little bit of time to reflect on whatever melancholy regret you're thinking about (I highly recommend listening to this song during that time period), and then go out and live your life to the fullest. If you learned anything from that one regret, it's to stop making regrets. So don't ignore your feelings, but don't let them ruin your incredible summer either.

6. "You don't ever want to step off that rollercoaster and be all alone."

"I Took A Pill In Ibiza" - Mike Posner

All you want to do when you hear this lyric is snap your fingers in agreement. Spend time with your friends and family this summer-- if you treat them right, they'll be with you until the very end. It's so important to have that kind of genuine support in your life, because when you're feeling low, or when your 15 minutes of fame are over, those people are still going to love you for exactly who you are. Cherish them.

7. "Always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper."

"Formation" - Beyoncé

This lyric should make you feel strong, centered, and the kind of fierce only Sasha herself can feel. And she's 100% right! Go out there and live the sickest life you can possibly live. Your haters will be sorry when you're the one in the spotlight.

8. "Nothing to prove, and I'm bulletproof, and know what I'm doing."

"Dangerous Woman" - Ariana Grande

This song is incredibly sexy and empowering. Most songs about boys put them in the role of power; this one, however, makes Ari herself the "dangerous" one. She is just so clearly secure in this relationship and confident in herself, and it's a refreshing change from all those songs about girls falling for boys. This summer is the summer for you to take charge of your life and your relationships, because Ariana Grande shouldn't be the only dangerous woman out there.

9. "You put my heart on my sleeve for decoration."

"Work" - Rihanna

Yet another sick line from Badgal Riri. Potentially the most underrated, though, because the rest of the song is just "workworkworkworkworkwork" and a bunch of other unintelligible words. But there's something so intense and brave about being vulnerable, and she bares her soul in this one. She knows it means she could get hurt, and she does it anyways. That's strength. Maybe take a page out of her book this summer, and stop being afraid to open up.

10. "I don't need a hand to hold, even when the night is cold // I got that fire in my soul."

"Me, Myself & I" - G-Eazy

YOU ARE SO INDEPENDENT. You can be the best version of yourself this summer, and you don't need anyone else to complete you or get you there. Do it on your own, because you are strong and you can do whatever you put your mind to all by yourself.

11. “I found gold in the wreckage, put it on a necklace // keeping it cause I know that it’s mine.”

"Mine" - Phoebe Ryan

Phoebe Ryan here, reminding you to always find the good in every messy situation. That "gold in the wreckage" is whatever you learned from that mess, and it's important to take that with you so you can do even better next time. This is the summer to use all that gold and turn it into something wonderful. Go out there and find it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
