11 Song Lyrics That Describe Different Dead Week Scenarios
Madeline Dziak

All-nighters, many cups of coffee, and the endless dread of if we will pass our finals. It's dead week. It's also my first time experiencing dead week and I can say that I am surprised at how I am somewhat alive. By the time this gets published, I will probably be dead from all of the studying I did, but I bet it will be worth it. I hope.

So with that being said, and I'm grateful I am now taking the time to write this in the library after studying for quite a bit, here are 11 relatable song lyrics that could possibly describe dead week scenarios.

1. When the first day of dead week begins.

"Are you ready for it?" — "Are You Ready For It?" Taylor Swift

2. Realizing you’re going to be stressed for an entire week.

"Oh, I’m a mess right now inside out." — "I’m A Mess," Ed Sheeran

3. When you need to eat but you still need to study.

"It’s gonna take a lot to take me away from you." — "Africa," Toto

4. Where you tell people you’ll be during the week.

"I swear she lives in that library." — "Good Girls," 5 Seconds of Summer

5. Trying to make sure you don’t go on your phone a lot.

"One: don’t pick up the phone. You know he’s only calling cuz he’s drunk and alone." — "New Rules," Dua Lipa

6. When you decide to study the week before actual dead week starts and you’re going to end up more dead on the inside.

"Hello, darkness my old friend." — "The Sound of Silence," Simon and Garfunkel

7. When all you can think about is how you will be home for Christmas soon.

"The best time of the year when everyone comes home. With all this Christmas cheer, it’s hard to be alone." — "When Christmas Comes to Town from The Polar Express

8. When those first tears of the mental breakdowns happen and it’s only Tuesday morning.

"Try to scream out my lungs but it makes this harder. And the tears stream down my face." — "Moments," One Direction

9. Telling yourself that these two weeks are going to fly," even though in reality they are seeming to drag.

"I close my eyes, tell myself that my dreams will come true." — "History Maker," Dean Fujioka (aka the Yuri!!! On Ice theme song)

10. Understanding that studying for college finals is more rigorous than studying for high school finals.

"So no one told you life was gonna be this way." — "I'll Be There For You," The Rembrandts

11. Remembering that along with all of the studying you got to do, you also have an Odyssey article to write and you’re on deadline. (Aka me)

"Why do you write like you’re running out of time?" — "Non-Stop from Hamilton

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
