I don't know about you, but I love musicals. Some would think I'm obsessed. What can I say? They combine two of my favorite things - music and stories. The first one I saw was "The Phantom of the Opera" when I was ten. I have seen more since then and I plan on continuing to do so. Anyway, here are 11 things that may seem a bit familiar when you love musicals as much as some people (me, for instance).
1. Chances are, you've earned a nickname inspired by your love of musicals.
Some musicals even have their own moniker for fans, like Rentheads.
2. You've listened to several renditions of the same song.
Why yes, I have heard the OBCR, the film soundtrack, and the revival cast recording.
3. Sometimes you get annoyed at the movie adaptation(s).
Seriously? You honestly expect me to believe that Sandy & Danny just flew (no, not drove, flew) into the sunset? *rolls eyes*
4. You have a collection of Playbills stashed in your room somewhere.
I keep mine in a box. Some people frame theirs, or put them into a scrapbook. You do you.
5. The phrase "emotionally attached" becomes a facet of your personality.
Some of my hobbies include long walks on the beach, candlelit dinners, and having my heart shattered into a million pieces by fictional characters.
6. The reprise of a song tends to hit you right in the feels.
"I let my golden chances pass me by..."
NO, THAT'S FINE. I WANTED MY MASCARA TO RUN ANYWAY.
7. You wonder about the amount of work that went into the costume design.
Like, those ball gowns must have taken forever to make.
8. An 11 o'clock number is guaranteed to give you an adrenaline rush.
By the time that last note hits, I'm fired up.
9. Whenever you listen to a soundtrack, you imagine yourself as a character in that show.
I could totally be a dancer at the Kit Kat Klub.
10. There's at least one character you hate with a vengeance.
I'm looking at you, Judge Turpin.
11. They create memories you'll cherish for a lifetime.
It may sound corny, but it's true. Whether the musical has something you can relate to your own life or it's making a deep impression on pop culture, musicals have a way of capturing your attention and, over time, your heart.
