11 Signs You Went To Catholic School
Bustle

Ah, the good old days. Telling people that you went to a Catholic school might raise some eyebrows—after all, it’s the 21st Century, and religious schools aren’t as popular as they were decades ago. If you did attend this kind of school, then this list is perfect for you. Here are 11 signs that anybody who has gone to a Catholic school can relate to.

1. Life was easier when you didn’t have to pick a different outfit every day.

Remember when you had a set outfit for every day of the year? Sure, it may not have been stylish, but at least you never had to worry about what to wear.

2. You had the same 20 students in your class for nine years.

From kindergarten to the time you graduated, you saw the same faces every single day. Getting to know one another was never a problem — after all, you basically grew up together.

3. Getting a new student in class was a momentous occasion.

Whenever you caught word that the class was going to get a new student, it was the most exciting part of your day. After sitting next to the same people every day, a new face is the biggest news your 11-year-old heart can handle.

4. You always tried to get a speaking role at Mass.

How cool was it to get to speak into a microphone to a large group of people? You were always looking out for open spots to get to read the Gospel.

5. You most likely dressed as an angel at some point in your school career.

Don’t lie, you have definitely had to wear a halo and wings for your school, whether it was for a Christmas program or some other religious event (there were many).

6. You couldn’t start learning until your daily morning prayer was completed.

You probably spent more time than was necessary reading prayer every morning. It was such an important part of your daily routine that you even had a student council position dedicated to it.

7. You have spent more time than you would like to admit explaining to people that not all of your teachers were nuns or priests...

It’s the most common misconception. No, I wasn’t only taught by nuns, and they most definitely did not hit us with rulers.

8. ...but some of them were.

Of course, you can’t deny that you have been taught by a few here or there.

9. Going to confession was a stressful time.

There was so much pressure riding on you — it took forever to figure out what you wanted to confess. Of course, when you actually went to the priest, you blanked and decided to just pull the regular “I was mean to my sibling” card.

10. You got really into singing all of the songs at Mass.

Not going to lie, the best parts of mass were when you got to sing and do the hand motions to the best religious songs. Not only did you get to skip an hour of class-time, but you even got to have fun doing it -- when you weren’t praying, that is.

11. You’re still probably friends with the same people you were in elementary school.

No matter how much you complained about the prayers and the uniforms, you still find yourself reminiscing about those middle school days where you and your friends got to hang out all of the time. Even now, there are only a select few who can share your experience of going to a Catholic school, and they’ll always be your friends for that.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
