Hair is great... sometimes. On our good days, our hair is awesome and looks good no matter what. During the other 95% of the year, we're not so lucky. Everyone has their own hair problems and having thick hair is one of the worst. The compliments are greatly appreciated, but there's a lot of things we go through to get to the point.

1. We shed like a dog

And the worst part is that we grow hair like an Olympic champ! You'd think the amount of hair I lose would make me bald!

2. It's hard to curl

With our hair being so thick, it's easier to break the curling iron than trying to make it work. Once I curled my hair... and it stayed for about five seconds.

3. Having to buy special hair ties

Can't have metal in it. Can't be thin. Can't be too small.

4. A hair dryer won't dry it in time

Some people spend 10 minutes drying their hair and it works! I've hair dried mine for 30 minutes and only finished half of my head. That's why I stick to air drying and not caring anymore. Pro tip: shower at night.

5. That's why we let it air dry... which takes forever

In response to #4, air dying is where it's at. Except when people think the water stains on your clothes is sweat. And when it's the middle of December and you woke up late.

6. Buying two boxes of hair dye

If you buy one, you'll look like a zebra. Trust me.

7. Conditioner is our savior

Without conditioner, the smoothness of our hair would be non-existent and my hairbrush would probably have killed me. Pro top: don't use more than a half-dollar and no less than a dime.

8. It's not just our head we worry about...

Enough said.

9. People constantly tell us we have thick hair

The compliments at the salon are awesome, but they don't know the hell we go through to make our hair manageable. And to the people who feel your my and say "Wow! You have thick hair!", thank you, I know.

10. Our hair is everywhere!

I'll find it in the weirdest places. The worst part is that everyone knows it's you.

11. When it's hot, we can't manage

Not even putting it up in a ponytail can help.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
