11 Signs That You're From Leesburg, Virginia

I have lived in Leesburg, Virginia since I was two years old, and for that I consider myself lucky. Leesburg is the place that I miss when I am away at school, and the place I have made all of my childhood memories at. Despite all the times that I have envied people that live elsewhere, I am so happy to live in such a cozy and beautiful town - after all, it is in the happiest county in America! Here are some signs that show that you're from Leesburg, Virginia.

1. Target, Wegmans, and Costco are your second home.

Because you can buy pretty much everything you need at each of those stores.

2. You go to or have been to Ida Lee on the Fourth of July.

Practically all of Leesburg is packed onto this field and traffic in downtown Leesburg is a mess, but it's a tradition.

3. When Chick-fil-A and Chipotle opened in Leesburg, you felt blessed.

No more driving to Sterling or Ashburn to get a burrito bowl or waffle fries!!!

4. You see the Flag Man everywhere you go.

He is so patriotic, and he has definitely become someone that defines Leesburg.

5. One day you can be melting in 90-degree weather, and the next day you need to wear a jacket to shield yourself from the cold rain.

We all know this to be true, and we have grown to accept that you can experience all four seasons within a single week in Leesburg.

6. People at your college have never heard of Leesburg.

"Oh! So you're from NOVA!" and "I think I've been there once, to go to the Outlets!" are things you hear all the time.

7. High school football is a big deal.

There was nothing more fun than Friday night football in high school, and the Battle of The Burg was not a game to miss.

8. Bear's Den and Scott's Run are the places to go.

Especially when you're broke feeling outdoors-y.

9. Cookie sundae from Fire Works Pizza. Enough said.

You have had one of these, and you have definitely taken a picture of it before.

10. The mall near your college makes you even more homesick.

I seriously need to take advantage of having Dulles and Tysons nearby before I go back to school.

11. There's no where else you would rather call home.

Because no matter what, Leesburg will always have a special place in your heart.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
