Every friend group has a mom. If yours doesn’t, then you probably are the mom. If you need help figuring out who is the mom, here are some clues to help you recognize her.
1. She’s nosey.
She’s constantly in your business, and she gets upset if you don’t tell her about something right away or if you leave out any details. She may even be nosier than your real mom. But it’s just because she cares, right?
2. She likes to stay in on weekends.
She’s just as happy to stay in and catch up on some Netflix documentaries as you are when you decide to go out and blow off some steam. “Have fun, be safe!” You know those words very well.
3. She knows your schedule.
And when you have tests. And quizzes. And papers to write. “Shouldn’t you be studying?” “You’re going to be late to class.” “Did you email your professor yet?” She nags because she cares.
4. She tells you to get to bed at a reasonable hour.
“Don’t you have an 8:00 a.m. tomorrow?” Yes mom. But this homework isn’t going to do itself.
5. She has a practical hobby.
Whether she crochets, knits, or does anything remotely artistic, you can always expect handmade presents for every birthday and holiday. And that hole you tore in your favorite shirt? No problem. She’ll sew that right up for you.
6. She’s always down to stay in with you on weekends.
No matter what age you are, staying in with Chinese leftovers and "Wheel of Fortune" feels like a luxury vacation after a stressful week.
7. She takes care of you when you’re sick.
She’s got drinks, blankets, tissues, cough drops, the works. She’ll even tuck you in for naps and take your temperature. And force you to go to health services (even if it’s just a cold, because she hates to see you miserable).
8. She comforts you when you’re upset.
Whether you’re crying over your crush, a failed exam, or what feels like no reason at all, she’ll always be there for you. Probably with snacks.
9. She’s one of the most thoughtful people you know.
Whether it’s your favorite snack she surprises you with after a trip to the store, or the hug she gives you just because she can tell you needed it, she’s always thinking of you.
10. She helps you with your homework.
When that class you thought would be fun to take together gets to be too much, she’s always there to help you. (And her major can really come in handy around finals week.)
11. She cheers you on.
Whether it’s for your sporting event, an interview you’re really nervous about, or that exam you’ve been cramming for all week, she’s always there by your side offering words of encouragement.
Even though she’s a pain sometimes, you know you’re lucky to have her. And you wouldn’t have it any other way.
