We all have our favorite TV show, a show which we binge watch or a show whose episodes we watch numerous times. A show that, when we are watching it, somehow allows us to block out the rest of our problems, and the only stress our bodies are experiencing is being sent through the situations that the characters are going through on the show. Here are some signs that we may be a little too involved.
1. Character Mentions
You bring up the characters from your favorite show like they are real people. They exist in your world, and no one else understands who they are when you are talking about them.
2. Moving
You want to drop all your belongings and move to the place where the show takes place. It literally looks like a vision of Narnia or a place of paradise that you just cry over because you do not live there.
3. Emotions
The characters make you extremely happy, very sad or enraged with anger. You scream when they make a horrible decision. You feel the guilt crawling inside you when you know the characters do something wrong.
4. Lack of Focus
First, I am not sure who Walter is, but he probably should focus right? But, anyways, that 10 page research paper you were supposed to write? Yeah well there is a new episode of "How To Get Away with Murder" on at 9 p.m., so that paper will not be done anytime soon.
5. The Texts
After you watch that new episode, your jaw is left wide open and you are speechless. You immediately Snapchat all of your friends and call your mom, and they all give you the same response. "Go. To. Bed."
6. Social Life
Besides the texts, getting too involved with a TV show will deplete your social life to a minimum. Your friend will text you asking if you want to get dinner, and you will respond five hours later when it is 3:30 a.m. in the morning with, "Sorry I was busy."
Were you really that busy?
7. Weekends
As soon as your classes are done on Friday, the weekend, aka "Watch as much of my show as I can in 48 hours" begins. You get in your comfiest clothes, bring some snacks to your bed and the marathon begins.
8. Subscriptions
You get the message at the top of your Netflix that says, "Your subscription is ending in 1 Day. Click here to Renew," and your world immediately starts spiraling down. You hold back tears as you are typing in your credit card info and pulling spare change out of your pocket in desperate attempts to save your Netflix account.
9. Morals
Every time you hear one of the characters give a life lesson, or provide another character with a positive moral, you hit social media to tweet the quote like you are some philosopher. You write it on your wall and use it in every appropriate situation.
10. Your "Baby"
The show is your child. Whenever you hear someone talk bad or saying anything slightly negative about it, you feel like a mamma bear with your claws ready to come out.
11. The Series Finale
You just sit there, pondering about how the past two months consisted of takeout and a show that does not exist in real life. Reality sinks in. You do not realize where you are and why you are so upset.
Your life that was consumed by your favorite TV show is now entering the real world, and you honestly have no clue what to do. So what do you do in this situation? Re-watch the show from the very beginning.
