11 Reasons Why Your Mom Is Your Life Long Best Friend
Carly Musser

Since day one, your mom is the one person who has never left your side. From the moment you were born, she loved you instantly and became your first friend.

No matter what age you are, she is still there for you no matter what. She is someone who is so proud of you, the best shoulder to cry on, and the perfect best friend and role model to look up too.

Is there really a better best friend than your mom? Here's 11 ways your mama was your first and is your BFF for life.

1. She will always and forever have your back

From preschool to college, mom wanted you to slowly gain your independence, and stand up for yourself. If you get nowhere with Comcast or AT&T, or even your college or university, mama will have them on speed dial.

2. YOUR happiness is her happiness

Nothing makes your mama happier than seeing a smile on your face.

3. She makes you feel like you are worthy, even when you feel like you aren't

No matter what obstacle you are facing, or what boy upsets you, she will always be there to remind you that you are worth so much more than you even know.

4. She makes you laugh like no one else can

Her smile and her laugh light up any dark room. She puts a smile on your face and brings you sunshine on any cloudy day. She knows just how to make you smile, even when no one else can.

5.She makes you believe in yourself and your future

Just when we think that we are never going to make it, or reach our full potential, she is always there to tell you that she believes you. When your best friend believes in you, you know that everything is going to be okay.

6.She's the most selfless friend you could ever ask for

She puts your needs before her own. She would do anything and everything for you, and ask for nothing in return.

7.She gives the best advice out of anyone you know...

No matter how much we may want to avoid her lectures and advice, she is always right.

8.And she always knows what to say

She always knows the right words to say, even when we may not be able to gather our thoughts. No one can empathize better with you than your best friend.

9.She always tries to "get it" even when she doesn't

When I left for college, she upgraded from a flip phone to the iPhone 5, so she could Facetime me. It took her a little while to get used to it, but she never failed to try her best to figure out how to send emojis or fireworks with a text.

10. She's been there, and done that

The chances are that she has been in your situation before-the good, the bad, and the ugly. She has had her heart broken, but she also became a warrior through all of the obstacles she's had to overcome. She has seen happiness, and she has seen sorrow. Her strength and her life lessons are inspiring.

11. You've inherited her genes

You have a connection with her that you have with no one else. Her hair color, eye color, shoe size, height have all been passed onto you. She is the one of the very most important people in your life.

If it weren't for her, you wouldn't be you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
