Those who know me know I’m obsessed with BBC’s "Sherlock" starring the most beautiful man on this earth Benedict Cumberbatch and the ever-charming Martin Freeman. (So I’m bias… it’s still a good show). It’s possibly the best show I’ve ever seen and here’s 11 reasons I highly recommend it.
1. Benedict Cumberbatch
You've probably seen him in "StarTrek," "August: Osage County," and many other big name projects, "Sherlock" is where he began to gain notoriety. Yes, I personally think he is gorgeous, but more important he’s an incredibly talented actor. His portrayal of Sherlock is a fast-talking, rude, drug addict desperate to prove his own humanity. The complexity of his character alone got me hooked.
2. Martin Freeman.
Yet another increasingly famous actor who also began his rise to fame through "Sherlock." Also an incredibly talented actor. His portrayal of the tough yet caring army doctor so devoted to his best friend he’d do anything for him, is outstanding. The chemistry between them is real and keeps you coming back for more of the dynamic duo.
3. The Casting.
I had to point out the leads specifically because of how awesome they are but there isn’t a weak link in the cast! Every new face that comes into an episode offers an excellent level of talent that keeps the show at it’s high level of perfection.
4. The Writing.
When Sherlock goes off on a rant, not only is Cumberbatch’s performance incredible but you can’t help but admire the impeccable writing. The complexity of the cases and the speeches given touch your heart and blow your mind!
5. The Camera Work.
The special effects and scene transitions are a work of art! It’s fast paced and high energy with outstanding ideas. I don’t think I could find a single GIF to do it justice.
6. The Costuming.
We all think of the classic Sherlock Holmes with a deerstalker, a pipe, and a magnifying glass but in this modern twist we come to know Sherlock in a new wardrobe of a high collared coat and a blue scarf. And the good news is, the deerstalker still makes the occasional appearance! The costume pays tribute to the orginal work while still manage to create unique modern version of them. It's really interesting to watch how the costumers manuver the past and the present.
7. The Quality.
Yes, it can be frustrating waiting years in between seasons (or as they’re called by the BBC series) but you basically get three movie length episodes and they’re also spectacular and wonderfully done.
8. The plot twists.
You'll constantly be in shock! You will never, ever see the ending coming! Well unless you’ve read the original stories of course… but even then there is always something new in the modern adaptation.
9. It has something for everyone.
Action. Drama. Comedy. Romance. Suspense. It’s all there and it’s blended so well to create an intriguing plot every time.
10. It’s a refreshing change from average television.
Let’s face it American television is dominated by basic reality shows and overdone sitcoms, those are fun but "Sherlock" stands out as something fresh, witty, and sharp in comparison. "Sherlock" is fantastic!
11. It’s on Netflix!
There’s no excuse now! You can catch up and be ready in time for the rumored 2017 airing of series four.
I could also point out the few flaws it has, like the waiting period in between series, but why bother when the positives outweigh any minor flaw i could name? I highly recommend "Sherlock" and not just because I had a marathon weekend of it recently and not just because Benedict Cumberbatch is my number one celebrity crush. I recommend it because you won’t be sorry if you watch it. Not for a second.
