11 Reasons Sacred Heart University Is Better Than Fairfield U

Two well-known colleges inhabiting the same town is bound to create a rivalry. I suppose the only question one can ask themselves is, which one is better? Obviously, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Unfortunately for Fairfield U students, opinions are like mix-tapes and we simply don't want to hear yours. Here are 11 reasons why Sacred Heart University is better than Fairfield University:

1. Three words: Dr. John Petillo

Better known as @SHUprez, the twitter sensation with nearly 2,500 followers-- also happens to be our university's resident. Sending love to his students via twitter, Dr. John Petillo is very technologically forward. I didn't see much love coming from Fairfield U's campus recently...

2. Pioneers > Stags

A Pioneer is someone who is among the first to explore a new area or to apply a new method or area of knowledge. Essentially, just as every SHU student is, we innovate and we lead. What even is a Stag? A male deer. Or someone without a partner at a social gathering. I'd say we win on the mascot front. Welcome to Pioneer nation!

3. Ghetto-Party"

Speaking of social gatherings... What is a "Ghetto-Party" you ask? Don't ask SHU students, ask Fairfield U...

This party scandal was quoted as being "truly disappointing..." by some of Fairfield U's own students. Shame, shame F.U. At least SHU can keep their parties from the headlines (I couldn't resist).

For some reason, this is all I picture when I think of Fairfield U. students dressing up for their "Ghetto-Party":

4. Red's

Now I know that Fairfield U has The Levee, but any SHU student knows that nothing is more poppin' than just about any night at Red's, the on campus sports bar. Especially when @SHUprez is serving up the finest!

5. SHU-ttle

Does Fairfield U's shuttle have a cute nickname associated with it? Or how about an APP that tells you the location of the shuttle and approximate time before it reaches it's destination? Look out, here comes the SHU-ttle!

6. Linda McMahon Common's

Where after a long night of drinking downstairs at Red's, you can climb up the stairs or take the elevator to Linda's and get mozzarella sticks until 2am. Honestly, is there any come back from this? Not to mention it's beautiful and you can see the entire campus from the walls made of windows.

7. Campus Beauty

Sacred Heart University undeniably has the prettiest campus out of the two-- plus nearly every building is brand new and the campus is STILL expanding.

8. Greek Life

Even though SHU is a Private Catholic school, we still embrace the Greek Life! Actually, it's a pretty big deal on our campus.

9. Nursing School

According to the Nursing School's Almanac website, Sacred Heart was voted #7 for top nursing schools in New England as of 2015. Fairfield U fell behind at number #9. Not to mention they required a corrective plan due to a low first time pass rate. Go SHU nursing! (As a nursing major I suppose I am a little biased)

10. Location

Located right on Park ave, Sacred Heart is the prime location for students to quickly get to the Westfield Trumbull Mall as well as Black Rock Turnpike when traveling home for breaks! No need for a long ride across town, just jump on the SHU-ttle and be there within 5 minutes!

11. Last, but not least, a statement from @SMACKCOLLEGE

Not only do we think we are sexy, but we even get recognition from others! SHU, where everyone is sexy.

Clearly, SHU is way better-- I wouldn't want to be our rivals!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
