Registered independents have their own views without being chained to a political party. They are not looked down upon for having conservative views in some areas and liberal views in other areas. However, depending on where you live, there are some elections you cannot take part in (mostly party primaries, some states have closed primaries). This is primarily because you might actually be registered as "no party affiliation." I am a registered independent (actually, "no party affiliation") and I do not regret it at all. Here are 11 reasons why...
1. No party affiliation, no guilt
It's pretty straightforward. No party affiliation means no guilt at all if you "break away."
2. Freedom to view victories and failures from a fresh standpoint
To defend when you can and recognize when you cannot. You always keep the views fresh.
3. Picking your political favorites with no shame
To be honest, both sides have good views. But, ask me who my favorite politician is, I would say US Representative Barabara Lee (D- Ca), she's the best.
4. Freedom to form your own complete feelings
My complete feelings are my complete feelings. It's being able to be truly independent
5. Freedom to analyze all options in elections
Elections will always present you with options. It's like the US giving you beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes.
6. Being the voice of reason between your far-spectrum friends
Somebody has to be the voice of reason to end the drama. Somebody also has to be the challenger.
7. Ability to use the facts without distortion
Not falling for the catch phrases when you know something is being left out. For example, "common-sense voter ID laws," you know there's something sketchy going down.
8. Being the literal definition of "vote your best interest"
I grew up in a family who believes in voting their best interest. Being an independent makes it easier.
9. No loyalty to anyone but yourself
This does not mean party loyalty is a bad thing. It just means it can be a burden, especially when you disagree.
10. Just, all around guilt-trip free
Moving on and navigating the world without a pre-dispositioned political view is amazing. And, being able to identify a guilt-trip.
11. Simple freedom altogether
I got thoughts, concerns, agreements, rebuttals, likes, hates, approvals, disprovals, chicken, turkey, rabbit...
