Nick Miller's turtle face.
If anyone asked me to explain why they should start New Girl in less than 5 words, that's what I would tell them. Zooey Deschanel is great, Schmidt deserves his own post, and the humor is on another level but for me, it all comes down to Nick Miller. I relate more to him than I ever thought I could to a 34-year-old white male bartender. He is another species of human altogether, but I think he is one of the most surprisingly relatable characters on tv today. Here are a few times his words resonated with me on a spiritual level.
1. When you're in a fancy place and feel like you don't belong:
2. When your friends ask you about your new exercise regimen:
3. When someone compliments you:
4. When you reach philosopher levels but everyone still thinks you're crazy:
5. When your parents ask you why you never leave your room or talk to people anymore:
6. When you realize your grades (and life in general) are reaching depths the Marianas Trench would be jealous of:
7. When you realize that the only thing holding you back is you:
8. When anyone asks you to do anything for them, ever:
9. When you somehow do well on anything English-related:
10. When people accuse you of doing nothing with your life:
11. When you're faced with any sort of problem in life:
Moonwalking away from your problems is one of many tips I've learned from New Girl. See-it's funny AND educational.
This show is great and I think Nick Miller is a big part of why. If these scenarios are unrelatable for you....well...good job. You must be living a very happy and positive life. If, however, they do seem scarily accurate to your life (as they are to mine), well...good luck Charlie. (Is that a copyright violation? Probably. But does anyone even read my articles? Probably not.)
