Usually once or twice a year I love to treat myself by going to a concert put on by one of my favorite artists or bands. That has included groups such as Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, and Joe Walsh, just to name a few. However, while I have had the gracious opportunity to go see some of my favorite acts in a live setting, there are a number of other artists that I would love to see in person but never will based on the fact that the group or artist has retired, disbanded, or is no longer with us. So with that said, here are 11 artists that I would appreciated to have seen perform on tour.
1. Michael Jackson
Even though Michael Jackson is no longer living due to his tragic and sudden death on June 25, 2009, I would have done anything to see the "King of Pop" live in concert since he was the first artist I was ever exposed to in the world of popular music. So, while I might be able to think about what witnessing a Michael Jackson concert would be like through listening to his music, I still would have loved to see the greatest performer in the history of pop music moonwalk across the stage during his performance of "Billie Jean," or do the famous lean move while singing "Smooth Criminal."
2. Billy Joel
Now, while it is still possible for me to go see Billy Joel live in concert, since he is currently playing one show a month at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and is still touring around other parts of the country and world, I don't see it happening based on the fact that I wouldn't have a clue if I will ever have the chance to visit "The Big Apple," and the other being that tickets to his shows are going for prices that I simply cannot afford, not to menton that half of his concerts sell out anyway. But who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and have a chance to see the "Piano Man" in a live setting someday, even though I highly doubt it sadly. If I could just see him perform "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" once in person, my life would be complete.
3. Prince
I was sad to hear about the tragic death of Prince this year on April 21, 2016 since he was an artist I really wanted to see live sometime during my lifetime. How that urge came about was from watching Prince perform the halftime show in Super Bowl XLI, which was a concert where I became familiar with his music. So, while I will always be able to watch videos of Prince performing live at different venues around the world, It would have been nice for me to have had the chance to see him sing songs such as "Purple Rain" or "Let's Go Crazy" in person.
4. The Beatles
Ok, who wouldn't have wanted to see one of the greatest bands in music history, and also a band that helped put not only rock n' roll but as well as popular music on the map? I know for sure I would have, and I wouldn't have ever forgotten it.
5. Beastie Boys
THE BEASTIE BOYYYSSS!!! Oh how I would have loved to have seen these guys at a concert of theirs, just based on the amount of pure energy, rambunctiousness, and fun that they would bring to the table. But sadly, since "MCA" aka Adam Yauch lost his battle with cancer back on May 4, 2012, this led "Mike D" aka Mike Diamond and "Ad-Rock" aka Adam Horovitz to end the legendary hip-hop trio's run which lasted an incredible 22 years. However, while the group is no longer around, I can still imagine what it would be like to see them perform songs like "Fight For Your Right," "Sabotage," and "So What'cha Want" in a live setting just by listening to them over and over again like I always do.
6. Run-DMC
A group that I consider to have brought hip-hop music to the forefront in popular music during the 1980s, Run-DMC is a group that I would have loved to have seen live, especially because of their beats. However, with the tragic and still unsolved murder of Jam Master Jay on October 30, 2002, "Run" Simmons and "D.M.C." McDaniels were forced to end the run of the hip-hop trio the same year. While it is a shame that I will never be able to see Run-DMC live, they will always be considered one of the greatest hip-hop acts in my book.
7. Rage Against the Machine
While Rage hasn't officially announced that they have ended their run as a band or anything like that, they have been on a hiatus for over 10 years now, which makes me question if there will be any chance for me to ever see them in concert. Hopefully sometime in the future frontman Zack De La Rocha can reconcile with guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford, and drummer Brad Wilk so they can tour again. However, based on De La Rocha beginning a solo career and the rest of the band starting a separate project called Prophets of Rage, I see little chance of ever getting a chance to see the band live. However, if I had the chance to, it would be a glorious, exciting, and head-bobbing experience.
8. Marvin Gaye
I feel that Marvin Gaye was taken from this world incredibly too early as he was shot by his own father. He just had so much more to give as far as his music and ability to get messages out to people, whether political, peaceful, or loving. I know for certain it would have been an honor to have watched this "Prince of Motown" do his thing on stage and perform with so much soul and soothing sounds in his voice.
9. AC/DC
AC/DC was the first rock band I heard growing up and to say that I will never get to see them live in concert is quite a shame. While they are currently still together and touring, original members Bon Scott, Brian Johnson, Malcolm Young, Phil Rudd, and Cliff Williams are no longer with the band, which to me takes away the incredible feeling I would get from seeing an AC/DC show. Now, I'm not saying that watching the current members such as the great lead guitarist Angus Young, who is the only original member left in the band, lead singer Axl Rose, drummer Chris Slade, and bassist Stevie Young live would be a bad experience, but it wouldn't be the same as seeing the original lineup that has made this band legendary in rock music.
10. Simon and Garfunkel
Not being able to ever see Simon and Garfunkel live breaks my heart the most because I will never get the chance to hear the beautiful harmonies that both of these great artists were known for creating together. Sadly, the constant tensions between Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were what led to the duo's breakup in 1970. However, while they reunited for performances over the years, my chance of seeing this legendary duo live in concert is very, very slim. I guess I'll have to stick to watching their live set they did at Central Park in New York City in 1981, which makes me wish that I could have seen them live even more.
11. John Denver
Seeing John Denver in concert would have been perfect for me because I feel that his shows were always relaxing, calming, and peaceful. Just having the chance to hear him sing songs like "Sunshine On My Shoulders," "Leaving On A Jet Plane," and "Rocky Mountain High" in person would have been absolutely amazing. Sadly, because of Denver's tragic death in an airplane crash on October 12, 1997, I will never have the chance to hear that wonderful voice of his in a live setting.
