11 Milestones Of Freshman Year

Freshman year! The best year of your life (so far). 18-year-olds are thrown into the world to fend for themselves, and we couldn't love it any more. Never in my life has nine months gone by so fast, and as the months turn to weeks and weeks to days, I found myself reminiscing more and more about how much i'm going to miss everything always being so fresh, new and exciting. So here's to those universal moments, freshmen forever. <3

1. First Night in the dorms

Your parent's car drives away and with that, you're left in an 11x13 ft room with three large boxes full of all your best clothes and attempts at cute decorations, sleeping 5 ft away from someone you (probably) met on the internet. You're basically living in a jail cell now, but hey you're a college girl! Let the fun begin!

2. First time doing laundry

OK, it may not be your first time ever doing laundry, but the first time you ever did laundry in the dorms successfully deserves its own recognition. You marched into that room, huge bag of laundry in one hand, detergent in the next, and you actually did it, you washed your clothes all on your own without any prodding from your mother! Accomplishment.

3. First time you met your future bridesmaids

You've only known them for less than a year, but it feels like a lifetime. You bonded over your mutual love for goldfish, "Grey's Anatomy" or whatever weird quirk y'all have in common and now you ask yourself every day how you spent 18 years without the people you now call your best friends. <3

4. First time eating in the dining hall

The first time is much more exciting than the rest, trust me. By the end of the year you'd rather actually pay for food than go through the doors of the local dining hall. But the the first time? It's magical.

5. First time you skipped class

It seemed like a big deal the first time you skipped your 8 A.M., but you soon realized that sleeping in is much more important than a silly attendance grade.

6. First time you passed on Netflix to go out

You hit pause on binge watching "House of Cards" and allowed your friends to drag you out while ya'll took on the town (or more likely the frat houses).

7. First time you passed on going out to watch Netflix

Who needs DT when you have "Grey's Anatomy," "Gossip Girl," "Parks and Rec," "How I Met Your Mother..." need I go on? Sometimes you just gotta skip going out in favor of a pizza and movie night.

8. First time you asked a boy on a date night

The process of finding a date is one you'll certainly never forget. Even after five or six times it still doesn't get any easier, just think back to the very first time.

9. First time you slept on your/a futon

Futon(fu.ton): Small couch-like piece of furniture used for sleeping guests, Netflix and chilling, or for those nights where you just can't seem to make it up to that lofted bed.

10. The First time you stayed out past 2 A.M.

No curfew means you took full advantage of the fact that you had no where to be at any specific time, and you partied it up until you were basically forced to go back to your dorm!

11. First time you moved out of your dorm

OK, so you probably will only do this once, and for some of us this hasn't happened yet, but it marks the end of your freshman year, the end of the potentially best year of your life, and your heart is gonna break a little. Be prepared.

Freshman year, you treated us well. Here's to you, and here's to those milestones that make you so great.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
