In today's on-demand age, you can watch almost anything your heart desires with a simple search and click. As a chronic binge-watcher, I know this truth all too well. While there are still several high-profile shows I have yet to watch ("American Horror Story," "Mad Men," and "Game of Thrones," just to name a few on my list), there is something to be said for the culture of binge watching TV shows. It's like a movie marathon, only worse. Because, actually, it really is difficult to click "no" when Netflix asks: "Are you still watching?"
1. You resent Netflix's condescending tone.
"Are you still watching?" Please. Don't patronize me.
2. The characters are your friends.
Nothing like an evening spent in good company.
3. Probably because you would rather stay home than go out.
Priorities, right?
4. You can never really watch just one episode.
This isn't amateur hour.
5. Sometimes you wonder if you have a problem.
How many episodes is too many episodes?
6. There have been times when you've only stopped watching because of basic human needs.
And we all know that breakfast in bed feels a little discriminatory.
7. You really are goal-oriented.
Nothing can stop you when you put your mind to it.
8. You keep seeing characters from other shows pop up in the middle of what you're watching.
No, Nathan, get out of "The Vampire Diaries" and go back to Tree Hill where you belong.
9. You feel empty inside when you finish the last episode.
A part of your soul died when those final credits rolled.
10. There's nothing like the struggle of finding a new show to watch.
11. But you always find something.
Here's to you, my fellow binge-watchers. May your responsibilities be ignored and your procrastination be in fine tune. Maybe one day we can be paid for our expertise.
