With summer quickly approaching, many of us college students are caught in the wacky weather limbo that has been plaguing the Northeast. One week we're sitting pretty in 75-degree sunshine and the next we're freezing our a**es off under eight inches of snow. And, with a little less than a month and a half until summer gets rolling, most of us aren't very concerned with what we'll be wearing.
For me, however, the best part of summer isn't the warm temperatures or beach trips. It's the fashion. Summer is so much more liberating in terms of what I can wear. It's a time to express myself. For most of the school year, I've been stuck wearing leggings and sweatshirts, so summer fashion is a change I welcome.
Maybe you haven't been thinking of what to wear, and that's okay. This list will give you an idea of some trends to look out for when creating your summer 2017 look:
1. Off-the-shoulder romper
Rompers have become a huge staple of summer fashion in the past few years, and now the off-the-shoulder trend is making a comeback. Off-the-shoulder rompers, dresses, and shirts are all in right now, and the trend is sure to last through those hot summer months. The romper looks stylish and effortless. Completing the look with beachy waves and gladiator sandals creates a fun and comfy summer ensemble.
2. Floral maxi dress
A good maxi is one of the best pieces to have in your summer wardrobe. Not only are they versatile but there are also so many different styles to fit your personal style. Floral, patterned, long-sleeved, plunging neckline... the possibilities are endless! Find your perfect maxi and dress it up for a summer wedding or dress it down for a casual lunch date with your besties.
3. Striped shorts
Bold stripes are expected to be a hot trend this summer, and what better way to wear them than on a cute pair of high-waisted shorts? These shorts are a fun departure from the typical jean shorts, and the black and white color scheme means you can wear them with any of your favorite shirts.
4. Bright yellow top
Is there a better summer color than yellow? I think not. This bold shade of canary is sure to be a trend in the coming months. The peasant cut of this shirt is perfect those humid summer afternoons and the lace detailing gives the top a fun and feminine accent.
5. White mini-dress
If you don't have a flowy white dress as one of your summer staples by now, then you are missing out. The cut of this dress looks good on any body type, and the high neckline and sheer detail are both big trends this year.
