I am convinced that nineties kids had the best childhood when it comes to TV. But I am especially partial to those old Disney Channel Original movies that used to come on like every night at 8 o’clock. So, here’s a list of some of the best Disney channel original movies to make the nostalgia come rolling in.
1. Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century
ZETUS-LUPEEDUS!! Who didn’t love Zenon? It came out in 1999 and it’s one of the first Disney movies I remember watching. Kirsten Storms was Zenon in this futuristic Disney movie that attempted to predict what the world would look like in the 21st Century.
2. Halloweentown
Can we all take a moment to acknowledge how great Halloweentown was? Seriously. Come October, I still want to watch it.
3. The Thirteenth Year
This came out in 1 999 and I barely remember it. But it was about a boy mermaid. Pretty progressive right?
4. Motorcrossed
Motorcrossed came out in 2001 and it was one of my favorites. It was all about these fraternal twins in stereotypical boy/girl sports, motocross and volleyball. There’s a whole bunch of Disney drama and some classic twin switches.
5. Gotta Kick it Up!
This is probably my favorite because it was the only Disney movie to incorporate Latina culture in America. Plus it has America Ferrera in it…
6. Pixel Perfect
This one had a great soundtrack. Some guy creates a hologram singer to sing in his struggling band.
7. Twitches
Another Halloween classic. Twin witches!
8. High School Musical
Whether y’all admit it or not, most of us were hit by the High School Musical craze. Varying degrees of hysteria, some more than others, but we were all hit.
9. The Color of Friendship
This is probably one of the lesser-known Disney Channel movies, but one of my favorites and definitely still a good one to watch. It’s all about racial tolerance and inter-racial/inter-cultural friendships.
10.You Wish!
Ever wish your little brother would just disappear? Well, so did Alex Lansing in this Disney Channel original.
11. Right on Track
Again, probably not very well known, but its about a Houston man who inspirers his daughters, Erica and Courtney, to become champions in the male-dominated world of drag racing.
