There are definitely plenty of opportunities to read throughout the summer, especially by finding books which aren't college-related. Here are 11 books for your beach days, road trips or the occasional rainy, summer day.
1. 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson
Looking for a mix of romance and adventure? This one is for you.
2. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
This book series is like a love triangle on steroids. Think Twilight but with real characters and a plot that is one million times better.
3. How to Love by Katie Cotugno
A really great before-and-after story which switches from past and present in order to show how people and relationships change over time.
4. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling
This one is absolutely hilarious, so much so that I can't describe this one well at all. You have to read it to get the experience. That's all I can say.
5. Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo
This one is a coming-of-age story mixed with forbidden love set in a grocery store. It's better than it sounds, I swear.
6. The Probability of Miracles by Wendy Wonder
The fact that this story is based in a magical town called Promise in Maine (which apparently has a reputation for miraculous things) speaks for itself. It's a fun novel with a fairly real story line despite containing so much fantasy.
7. The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen
Who should she be in a relationship with? Where should she go to college? Should she stay in her hometown? These are questions we all may have in life, making the book relatable.
8. Austenland by Shannon Hale
If you are obsessed with Jane Austen, this book is perfect for you. Even if you are not obsessed with Jane Austen, either way this book is hilarious, and you can even watch the movie afterwards.
9. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith
Moral of this story: you never know how four minutes and a dude you meet in the airport can change your path. Sounds cheesy but it's such a good beach-read.
10. Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin
You may recognize this one from the movie with Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin. I personally thought the book was better but you can always read it and find out for yourself.
11. The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp
This one follows a party boy from a small town in his last year of high school, and how he believes he could either fix or ruin one girl. This is another one that has been turned into a movie.
Whichever of these books you pick, I assure you, they will be great to help you through the summer heat.
So, what's on your summer reading list?
