On January 14, every Harry Potter fan's heart broke into a million little pieces when hearing the news. It was publicly announced that Allan Rickman, who played the iconic character of Severus Snape, had died after battling cancer. Now, maybe Snape wasn’t the most lovable character but as every Harry Potter fan knows, there’s more to the story than just a mean, grumpy professor.

1. "Turn to page 394.”

2. Saving Harry from Professor Quirrell during the Quidditch game.

3. Shielding Harry, Ron and Hermione from Lupin turning into a werewolf.

4. Snape catching Harry with the Marauder's Map.

5. Snape's reply to Umbridge after being questioned about the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.

6. Smacking Ron with books.

7. Being the Half-Blood prince.

8. Leading Harrying to find the Sword of Gryffindor.

9. Revealing his Patronus was a doe, just like Lily Potter's.

10. When Harry names his child after Snape.

This comes from every Harry Potter fan: a big thank you. Thank you for being a part of a world-wide family of the Wizarding World. Thank you for being the reminder not to judge everyone on their outward appearance because you never know how he or she feels on the inside. And most of all thank you for being such a big part of my childhood. You Allan Rickman and Severus Snape will be forever missed.
