If you're only into whatever's at the top of the charts, I've got news for you: music doesn't have to be number one to be good. In fact, some of the best music you'll find is right in front of you, literally.

Smaller, local bands might not be as famous as the people you normally listen to, but your favorite artists all started out in their positions. These 11 bands from New York are well on their way to big things, and I cannot emphasize enough how much I encourage you to listen to their music, even if it's for a few seconds.

You might just end up finding your new favorite band.

1. The B-List

They're a catchy pop punk band from Long Island, NY. Check out their video for "Burning Bridges" below! These dudes are full of talent.

2. Bombers

This is a rock/punk rock band from Bayside, NY, who describe themselves as "upbeat rock music in a punk rock vein." You can check out their video for "The Memory Man" here.

3. Call It Home

This post-hardcore band from Long Island, NY, will make you want to stop whatever you're doing and form a one-man mosh pit in your bedroom because they're just that great.

4. The Fallen Prodigy

This metalcore band is from New York, NY. Bonus: The lead, Jay, is a female, and her brutal unclean vocals can put other male-fronted bands to shame.

5. In Loving Memory

This rock/metal/post-hardcore band from Long Island, NY, is a personal favorite of mine. The guys from ILM are the sweetest, most talented folks I know and they're onto big things! I interviewed the frontman Naveed Stone back in January . Here's a song off their recent EP, "Stand My Ground."

6. Nice Shot, Kid

For fans of bands like Four Year Strong, New Found Glory, and Set Your Goals: here's an amazing, catchy pop punk band from Stony Brook, NY. They're releasing new music in the coming months, but for now here's their song, "Cornered."

7. The Nightmare Police

This is a pop punk/alternative band from Long Island, NY. Warning: If you listen to their song "Eighteen" below, you'll be singing it for days. It's that good.

8. Older Than Oceans

This is an alternative rock/pop punk easycore band from Long Island, NY. You can check out their video for "Hindsight Isn't Always 20/20" below!

9. Polarity

This phenomenal metalcore/post-hardcore band from Staten Island, NY will be headed out on "The Fearless Tour" with Sirona (formerly members of Woe, Is Me/That's Outrageous), and their hometown show is Monday March 14, 2016, at Webster Hall. Here's their latest song called "Hale's Own," featuring Denis Stoff of Asking Alexandria.

10. Varsity

This is an insanely talented post-hardcore/metal band from New York, NY. If you haven't listened to them yet, you're seriously missing out. Click that play button right now and thank me later.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
