10 Weirdly Specific Playlist Ideas

In This Article:

here are 10 of my niche playlists that i really think you would benefit in curating on your own! making spotify playlists is a fun way to explore new music, as well as experiment with the different ways that you can sort your own music. see if you can come up with some of your own!

music to commit larceny to

great for fast-paced, badass music! I would also put in a ton of comedic 70s/80s music, just to jam to while committing a felony <3

americanarama

one song from each state. perfect for road trips or when you're feeling patriotic!

You're biking away from the school bully in the springtime and you drop your ice cream cone

This one is great for childhood tunes, especially springtime music. The added spice of the bully means you can sprinkle in some fast-paced music rather than the slow music that reminds us all of the dog days.

halfway through a zombie apocalypse

self explanatory-- there's actually a pretty wide selection of music is or can be interpreted to be about an apocalyptic even or a cataclysm of some sort. also wonderful for putting in the classic rock music we're embarrassed to like.

i think i’m trapped in an episode of euphoria

you could replace euphoria with any show of your choice but the goal is to distill the atmosphere of the show or piece of media using music. so much fun to do!

youre a painting at the MET who’s in love with the painting across from you

we all have a library of pining music do NOT lie to me, okay? this could be if you're into someone who doesn't know, or perhaps in a long-distance relationship. either way, what captures longing and yearning like staring at your love but being unable to go to them? especially when they look like ART

good strutting music

this one is pretty self-explanatory. look, we all need a sountrack to feel confident. everyone has different kinds of music that they would be willing to strut to-- have fun with this one and put in some unexpected tracks!

locked in a 7/11 at 2am

everybody loves vapor soul! being at a 7/11 at 2am feels like not existing-- you know, that feeling where you're so small and so big at the same time? this is for sticking in your atmospheric music and stuff that really just gets you to a certain vibe that you can't quite name.

guillotining the fairie king

it may be me personally that has a lot of revolutionary music but also a lot of calming music. this playlist is about feeling badass and sticking it to the man, but while also looking good and being with your friends. the idea of a fairie mutiny is extremely appealing and finding music that fits this vibe is a challenge, but worth it in the end.

i was a good cyborg in a y2k movie but they corrupted my system so i’m an evil cyborg now

personally, this is where i would put a lot of my 2000s/new millenium music! i cater the order of the tracks to slowly get more and more "evil" (loud, maybe more brash or dark) sounds towards the end

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
