10 Ways To Tell You're A Deepher

Okay, for real what the heck is a Deepher? If you have ever seen us walking around campus squaded up, laughing hysterically and wondered, how are they so close? Well, this is why.

1. Unicorns are everything.

Deephers are unique creatures. We stand tall and believe in magic. We are kind, loyal and just. We are unicorns.

2. You sisters are your biggest support system.

We are the type of people to bring you up in your darkest hours. Strolling home linking arms and laughing about the moments we’ve shared together. We push each other to become our very best. We are more than just a shoulder to cry on. We want each and every one of us to achieve greatness. We develop girls into women. We grow as we travel through our college years, together, and for the rest of our lives.

3. Deepher Dude is easily the most anticipated event of the year (besides formal).

Okay, but how can you say no to a male pageant? Watching the guys swing their hips around the stage, competing to be number one. Priceless. Not only is it a great time, but all money raised goes towards Cystic Fibrosis— a chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. It's basically a defective gene where protein product causes the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus. No fun, we want to stop that. Deeper Dude is a great way to do it (everyone should come).

4. You want everyone to know that they are beautiful, inside and out.

ANAD, National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, is another philanthropy we hold near and dear in our hearts. We want each other to shine. We want to hear our sisters saying how beautiful they feel, every day. We build each other up, along with the world around us.

5. You care so deeply about the world and the people in it.

Being philanthropic is not something we push aside. We want to make the world a better place. We want to create fundraisers that, not only do people enjoy but raise awareness to help the world grow happier and healthier. We won’t settle for anything less.

6. The bonds you’ve created with your sisters are unbreakable.

Personally, I’ve met my best friends through DPhiE. I’ve always felt like an outsider at school. I didn’t have a home here. I went to my classes, ran into a few friends on the quad, left campus and that was that. Now, I’m a part of this sisterhood that’s given me more than I could have ever asked for. Words cannot describe how heavily my sisters have impacted my life as a whole. Here we go with the corny sorority quotes “it’s not four, its for life.” Yeah its clichè, but we can vouch that it's true.

7. To be rather than to seem (to be) is what you live by.

Esse quam videri: The Latin phase we carry ourselves through life with. It's more than our motto. We are go-getters. We believe in each other and we are who we are— not who we seem to be.

8. March 17 is way more than just St. Patrick's Day.

On March 17, 1917 at New York University Law School located in Manhattan— Delta Phi Epsilon was founded by Dorothy Cohen Schwatzaman, Ida Bienstock Landau, Minna Goldsmith Mahler, Eve Effron Robin and Sylvia Steierman. Better known as, the DIMES. Our foundation lays strong as these five unlikely women set standards amongst over 100 years of sisterhood, justice and love.

9. You are a leader, on LT or not.

Every Deepher is a leader-- that's what we strive for. We want to be the very best versions of ourselves. We push each other to reach for our wildest dreams. Sometimes it takes a bit, but we empower each other to push outside of our comfort zones. With our sisters by our side— we can achieve anything.

10. If you’re rocking your letters, you pray someone asks you about them.

Please someone, anyone— ask us, "What's it like to be a Deepher?" Trust me, we are passionate and begging for someone to ask why we love it, and each other, so much. Joining DPhiE was easily the best decision I've ever made in my college career.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
