Coming home for winter break can be difficult. Your old high school friends are all over the place reminding you of just good things used to be before you guys went your separate ways. There’s so much history that you can’t possibly forget them. They have seen all your flaws and all the skeletons you keep buried in your closet. They remind you where you come from and where you want to go. Plus, the inside jokes are too priceless to throw in the trash. They believe in you and push you harder than anyone else. This friendship was effortless. You guys could pick up things right where you left off, but now it seems more complicated than that. If only there was a way to get back to the way things were... So here are 8 ways to rekindle old friendships:
1. Follow the advice of Drake and Adele.
2. Go the old fashion route.
3. If you’re on good terms with them, just send them a text saying how much you missed them and want to see them.
4. If you’re not on good terms, remind them of how good your friendship used to be by sending them an old picture of you guys saying, “I was looking through my old pictures and found this gem and it made me really sad that we don’t talk anymore.”
5. Tag them in funny videos or pictures on social media that remind you of them.
6. Reminisce about the good times and how close you guys were.
7. Slowly move back into the friendship.
8. When you go back to college, make sure not to lose contact again, text them occasionally and invite them to come up and see you.
9. Leave your past fights in the past and learn to grow with one another.
10. Don't take them for granted.
I’ve found that all these things help when it comes to rekindling old friendships. I used to think I was the only one that missed the way things were, but in reality, no one can forget about you if they had a real connection with you. Odds are they miss you just as much as you miss them. Instead of sitting around feeling sorry for yourself, take action and stay true to the promise you made with them all those years ago.
