We all love it. It never texts you back “K” or eats your last leftovers from the fridge. It never tells you there’s no curve, or asks when you’re finally coming home. It is loyal and faithful unlike your ex. You love it more than college. It's procrastination.
Procrastination in the form of anything and everything is what is destroying our generation. And don’t get me wrong, social media is a great way to connect with people you love and miss, but when do we get to the point where we put “just 10 more minutes” before the paper that’s due tomorrow.
This article is for the REAL procrastinators. I mean the ones where it goes beyond “The morning before” I’m talking midnight the DAY your assignment is due. As a matter of fact this article is due in 30 minutes. And I can’t be the only one. We get so caught up in what other people are doing we forget to prioritize. It's not only social media, Netflix gets the best of all of us.
But lets not focus on the negative, we need solutions. We can talk the talk and say we are going to change but when will we walk the walk? Here are some things that I learned take a tad bit from our addiction.
- Get a planner
- Use the planner
- Remember to use the planner
- Make a schedule and stick to it
- Limit your use of social media and Netflix (Like, A LOT)
- Don’t look up “How to stop Procrastinating" in Google (because you won't take it seriously)
- ASK FOR HELP, you can’t do it alone (you're not the wonder child)
- Find a spot on campus and make it “your spot,” this will become your second love (which is actually your first)
- Commit to changing because we don’t want to start a vicious cycle
- Stay focused and try not to think about what your missing on social media, tell yourself it's not worth it
I’m not trying to say these things will save your life but when you look around at what’s keeping you tied up in this dirty thing called procrastination it really opens your eyes to what could be getting done. The Internet has become the black hole of time. And we have to look at what is adding to OUR LIVES? Just remember the next time you think about procrastinating ask yourself: what’s more important, keeping your grades up and not losing your scholarship or liking your BFF's last vacation pic? And tell yourself that the Internet is everlasting and it will always be there when you are done.
