The holiday season is the most wonderful time of year, right? Well for some people, that is not the case. It is important to remember that the holidays are not just about receiving but giving as well. This list includes organizations that graciously accept donations as well as ways that don't cost money. Giving back this holiday season does not have to be expensive; it's truly the thought that counts.

1. Toys for Tots

This is a nation-wide organization so no matter where you live, there's bound to be a drop-off site nearby. Just search your area on their site! https://www.toysfortots.org/

2. Make-A-Wish Foundation

There are so many children who will spend their holidays in a hospital and even just a card or balloon can put a smile on their face.

3. Volunteer at a soup kitchen

This one just requires time and a friendly smile.

4. PetSmart

Not only people suffer during the holidays but our four legged friends do too. https://www.petsmartcharities.org/

5. Better World Books

Everyone has books at home that they have already read or just forgot about. This organization will take your books and redistribute them to people around the world who don't have the luxury of a library card. https://www.betterworldbooks.com/go/donate

6. Pencils of Promise

I'm an education major, so of course we can't forget about helping give children a quality education. https://pencilsofpromise.org/

7. Goodwill or Salvation Army

Start spring cleaning early, and donate any clothing or items that could change someone's holiday.

8. Visit a Nursing Home

Just seeing young faces brings so much joy to the elderly and seeing them so excited is worth it, trust me.

9. Donate to a Food Bank

A canned good costs $1 at the grocery store, maybe even less but can make someone's holiday dinner possible. http://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-food...

10. Wish everyone a Happy Holiday!

There is no excuse for this one.

Do just one of these things this holiday season, and you will have made a positive impact on someone else. That is a gift you cannot find under the tree.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
