You wake up at 7 a.m. with the overwhelming reality that you do, in fact, have to be a person yet again today. As much as this horrifies you on any normal day (Hey, it’s cool. Being a person is hard work.), today is especially horrific. Whether it be a fight with a friend, a hook-up gone south, missing a loved one, or anything under the sun hideously stormy sky, something in your life has dimmed your inner light. Here’s how to strike a match.
1. Focus on the task at hand.
2. Try to block it from your brain for as long as you can.
3. Try to cultivate positive thoughts.
4. Don’t stress the little things.
5. Understand that some things are just out of your control.
6. Know you are the only one with the power to resolve this.
7. People help. Distractions help.
8. Forgive yourself. Forgive the world around you. Forgive whatever higher power you believe in for plaguing you with this god awful day.
9. Know that this is all temporary, and you are capable of getting through it.
10. Honestly, some days just really suck. They cut you open and leave you to bleed. But remember this: All cuts scab, and all scabs heal.
Keep your head high and your faith higher. You can make it through this bad day. There is another that will be a better waiting for you just around the corner.
