10 Unusual Things to Thank Your Guy Best Friend For

Every girl deserves a guy best friend. Someone to take the drama out of their life. Someone to hold them when another guy screws them over. Someone who deals with their feelings and takes it all in. We tend to thank them for all those things we are accustomed to thanking people for. Here are 10 unusual things you may have forgotten to thank your guy best friend for.

1. Thanks for taking me on "dates."

Every week we get lunch at the same place and get food. Whether or not you want to pay, or the look the lady gives you when I pull out my wallet makes you pay, I am not sure. But these lunch "dates" are not to just hang out. You always tell me how good I am looking even though I look like a mess, or you tell me how great I am just to make my day better. I know that behind these lunch dates are a way for you to make sure I am happy.

2. Thanks for understanding "that time" of the month and not being grossed out.

It's 1 a.m. and I am calling you crying. No, a boy didn't break my heart, and no, that back stabbing didn't start another rumor, it's "that time of the month." Instead of hanging up and going to bed, instead of telling me to go to bed, you show up at my house with ice cream and a movie while I continue to cry because of hormones. So, thanks for that.

3. Thanks for telling me I looked fat in that dress.

I loved that dress. It was my go-to dress. So naturally, getting ready for the first date I went to that dress. When I came out of the bathroom you gave me a face. "What?" I asked you. "Honey, that dress makes you look fat." Stunned, I really looked in the mirror and realized you were right. You could see my little stomach pocket and a stubborn side boob. Whether or not you made me realize I should get rid of that dress, or maybe hit the gym, I am not sure. But thank you.

4. Thanks for letting me date your best friend.

He is your "person." But when I met him I thought he was so cute. You knew from the beginning that it would end disastrous, and that we wouldn't last, but after me begging enough you let it happen you let me date your best friend. And a not so thank you for bringing it up every time we are all together.

5. Thanks for letting my boyfriends believe you're gay.

When I first started talking to this guy, he was defensive about how much you posted on my wall and why you always sent me hearts in texts. For some reason the whole "he's my best friend" didn't seem like it was going to fly with this one. So out of no where I blabbed, "He's gay." Suddenly, he started asking more about you, and was okay with our relationship. Wonder what will happen when he finds out?

6. Thanks for all the (not so) useless information on trucks, cars, and bikes.

Through the years, I have come to accept that we will never see eye to eye on how important motorized vehicles are. And over those years of you rambling on and on about these, I finally found a use. Turns out guys think it's attractive when we know about that stuff. Who knew?

7. Thanks for keeping pleasures a secret.

I guess in the big scheme of things you could say I am a little weird. I mean the kind of weird where every time we got the store I have to stop and smell the books, or my favorite movie is Dude Where's My Car? If everyone knew about the little things that make me so weird I probably would not have as many friends. So thanks for always keeping it a secret.

8. Thanks for "I told you so."

You have been there through every bad decision. And, boy, have I made a lot of them. You supported me when I wanted to give that jerk "just one more" chance. You supported me when I trusted the wrong people. But when it all went bad you looked at me and said "I told you so." I've learned to trust your opinion because deep down I know you only want what's best for me.

9. Thanks for lying to me.

We all tell white lies. But you have told me lies within our friendship that have made me stronger, or just to make me feel better. There have been times where I knew it was my fault, and I asked you and you said no. Or the time when I asked you if you thought the guy I liked was a good guy and you said yes, and when he screwed me over it only made me stronger. I know you only want the best for me, so thanks for all the lies.

10. Thanks for becoming a part of my family, and letting me become part of yours.

My mom is being a brat and my daddy told me no. When I go to tell you what happened, you agree with my parents? Why? Because you and them are just as close as my parents and I are. I come home and you are helping my mother cook dinner, or sitting watching sports with my dad. And all the times your mother calls to ask me what time I will be home for dinner. Those are the moments that make me so happy. Thanks for giving me another family.

So, buddy, thanks for being you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
