History can be a weird thing. It changes based on who you ask. It can seem like certain parts of history are super far apart, even though they happened at the same time in history. Here are 10 facts about history, that are slightly unbelievable, but 100% true.
1. The Great Fire of London in 1666 only killed 8 people.
Not exactly my idea of a "great fire," however, it did destroy over 13,000 houses.
2. The shortest war in history was indeed very short.
It was the Anglo-Zanzibar War. It lasted between 35 and 45 minutes in 1896.
3. Anne Frank and Martin Luther King Jr. lived at the same time.
MLK Jr. was born on January 15th,1929 and died on April 4th, 1968. Anne Frank was born on June 12th, 1929 and died some time in 1945. This fact is strange, because most people associate them as being from completely different parts of history.
4. Heroin used to be given to kids to alleviate coughing in the late 1800s.
If you had ever met your great-grandparents, were they nuts? This may be why. Correlation is not causation, but it's possible.
5. Cocaine used to be in Coca-Cola.
Its where the "coca" in the name comes from. Cocaine is derived from the coca plant.
6. No witches were actually burned at the stake in Salem.
It's a myth, they were all hanged.
7. George Washington's hair was real.
Contrary to popular belief, it was not a wig.
8. The catacombs in Paris are 20 meters deep.
That is 65.6 feet underground. That is preeeeeetty deep.
9. Joseph Stalin basically invented Photoshop.
He used to edit people who had died or been removed from office out of his photos.
10. Albert Einstein was almost the president of Israel.
Upon the country's founding in 1952, the offered the position to Einstein. He declined.
