Has October left you seeking out for more horrors and chills? Are you searching for something to quench your thirst for the undead? Or has “The Walking Dead” left you down because of unexpected character deaths or sudden plot twists? If you answer yes to any of the questions stated above, then most likely you have a zombie-obsession disease. However, unlike the fictional counterpart to your sickness, this disease is curable; the cure to your obsession is simply more zombie shows! The criteria of the shows in this list is that they must, a) include reanimated bodies, and b) have had at least one season completed since airing.
- “Z Nation”
The world is falling apart, zombies can run, and the only cure to humanity’s salvation is in the blood of a narcissistic human-zombie hybrid named Murphy. He also, just happens to have a knack for creating his own brainwashed minions. Worrying? Just a tad bit.
2.“Ash vs. Evil Dead”
The apocalypse tends to bring out the worst in people, and one such protagonist by the name of Ash Williams is not excluded from this fact. Name sound familiar? This television series is a continuation of the renowned, “The Evil Dead” films, (sans the “Army of Darkness” one). Unlike typical zombie shows, these undead can talk and come alive due to evil spirits taking haven in their bodies. So are they looking for brains? Not specifically, but staying away from this intelligent zombie is probably a smart thing to do.
3. "Game of Thrones"
Not exactly undead-focused, but "Game of Thrones" boasts its own version of the undead through creatures called White Walkers. Found only in the most frigid are of Westeros, these White Walkers are reanimated frozen bodies of the dead controlled by the Night King, and impervious to almost all medieval weapons in the land. Makes you regret killing off all those dragons now, doesn't it?
4. "The Returned"An American adaption of the French Series, “Les Revenants,” which translates to ‘ghosts.’ This show is less of your typical cynical comedy of zombies but a thriller focused on a small town that face the sudden return of their undead citizens.
5. "Fear the Walking Dead"
So you’re sick of the original, “The Walking Dead,” – just plain beyond frustrated over the recent turns, but you still can’t completely walk away from the franchise. Fortunately, “Fear The Walking Dead” exists and focuses on a whole new cast and plotline. Taking place in the western side of the United States, this show follows a disarrayed family in search for a sanctuary from the threats that are the sluggish dead and other fellow humans. (Almost sounds just like our world, right?)
6. "In the Flesh"
This British series takes a twist in the sense that
the world has developed a cure, (somewhat), and zombies are almost no longer a
thing. Post-apocalyptic Earth has a solution that regresses the “symptoms” that
make a person a zombie and offers these “ex-undead” another chance at
integrating back into life. Sounds nice until you realize that you
were the one who ate your neighbor’s wife.
7. "iZombie"
Meet medical resident Liv Moore, who has reanimated after dying at a party. Refusing to accept the fact that she has joined the ranks of the undead, she changes her whole lifestyle and decides to use her abilities to help solve murder cases by eating the victims’ brains.
8. "Helix"
Another Syfy take on the zombie franchise. Unlike “Z Nation,” it focuses on an isolated research facility in the arctic. This thriller explores a CDC team's covert investigation on a disease outbreak. Upon arrival, they soon realize that the genetic engineering research being done there has produced two variants of a particular virus. One kills its host instantly; the other makes the it become dangerously violent.
9. "The Strain"
Focusing on a head CDC scientist of New York, Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team are called to investigate on a mysterious plane crash where all the passengers have seemed to have died due to a viral outbreak. Unknowingly, this outbreak reanimates its host into a nocturnal vampire-like zombie. These undead prefer to work in groups and are cunning and fast. If they don’t kill you first, the slightest exposure to their liquids is enough to infect and turn you into one of them.
10. "The Fades"
A BBC show which technically is not a zombie show, but can qualify to be one with its frequent resurrection of the dead. The cause? Angry souls unable to pass on and thus find a way to get vengeance on the mortal world. Tread carefully, because you definitely don’t want to be the reason why someone is coming back to life.
