Open mic nights are unique in the way that you're free to do anything you like. Whether it be reading poetry, singing, or dancing, everyone is given the opportunity to show their talents.
1. The intense poetry readers
We have no idea what her poem was even about, but it sure was creative. And intense. Was the dead bird put into her hands a metaphor for something or did it actually happen?
2. The singer with the two interpretive background dancers
They steal the show, to be honest. And make the song so much more fun to watch. Is there a limit to how many times they can recreate the lift move from "Dirty Dancing?" No there is not.
3. Those two people that sing an adorable duet
They try to wear coordinating outfits, and everyone joins in when they forget the words. You can't help but love them. Especially the one that's really supportive of other people once they're offstage.
4. The really talented one that has an album coming out on iTunes
You know she's the real deal when people that weren't even at the event ask about her. And she has the amazing ability to write songs herself that are actually good.
5. The super boss improv dancer
She's so naturally talented and makes it look easy. And of course, everyone loves her performance.
6. The one that asks for volunteers, then calls people up by name, says they're going to roast these people, then proceeds to compliment them
Everyone then boos because they were promised a roast. I mean, it's a nice gesture and everything, but there's a time and place. When the audience demands a roast, you roast.
7. The one everyone wants to perform but doesn't
They don't, but they shout at the people adjusting the sound equipment to "spit a few bars." And there was a whole chain of people ending with them that were going to perform if they did.
8. The surprise performance from a staff member that was totally unexpected and no one saw coming.
He challenges that guy who just finished rapping to a rap battle, and he turns out to be really good. Meanwhile, everyone watching is shook.
9. The people who perform to give everyone's favorite the time to pick a song
These ones are the best and deserve more recognition. Especially if they chose to do something really special and meaningful to them.
10. The guy who can freestyle rap
Someone hit up Lin-Manuel Miranda and tell him that this dude is fit for Freestyle Love Supreme! Nobody knows exactly what his name is a few days after the event even though he kept promoting himself and all the accounts to listen to him on.
