10 Of The Most Devastating TV Cancellations Of My Lifetime

When you've had over 20 TV shows you like get cancelled, you get a little salty.

10 Of The Most Devastating TV Cancellations Of My Lifetime

I have this curse, or at least that's what I like to call it. It's a curse where almost every TV show I get really into gets cancelled. I had one friend who told me not to watch their favorite show because they were scared it would get cancelled if I did. I have had countless shows cancelled, (well, actually 24 shows. Yes, I've counted). And out of those 24 there were some that I really loved and still think shouldn't have been cancelled, so here they are. The top 10 shows that should not have been cancelled (and I'm still very mad about it).

10. NBC's "Crusoe" (2008-2009)

Based on Daniel Defoe's book, the show followed Robinson Crusoe after he was shipwrecked on an island with only the company of a native islander Friday. He desperately tries to get back to his family while telling the story of how he ended up on the island and discovering there could be a reason he ended up here alone.

This was the first show I had cancelled on me and the first one to disappoint me. I was mad because it just never came back on, and I looked for it. What's even more upsetting is that you never got to find out what happened to Robinson Crusoe and if someone had planned for him to get shipwrecked on the island.

Anger level: 5/10

9. NBC's "Telenovela" (2015-2016)

"Telenovela" is basically a comedic soap opera about a Spanish soap opera. There is lots of drama and laughs and a crazy cast, who plays a crazy cast.

I was surprised when this got cancelled because I thought it was doing pretty well. It was full of crazy antics and a great show to watch when you didn't want to think too much. I can't say I was mad about its cancellation, just surprised and disappointed.

Anger level: 5/10

8. FOX's "Red Band Society" (2014-2015)

This follows a group of teenagers in a hospital's pediatric ward. They try to come to terms with and beat their illnesses while still trying to be teenagers.

I really enjoyed this show and think it ended too early. I felt like we were just getting to know and care about the characters when they decided to cancel it. It really would have benefited from another season (two or three would have been preferable) just so we could really feel like we knew what happened. You can't just cancel a show with kids who are close to dying in it! We need to know that they live!

Anger level: 6/10

7. FOX's "Firefly" (2002-2003)

Set 500 years in the future, a ragtag crew of space travelers aboard the Serenity travels the galaxies, trying not to get into trouble, and failing.

I came into this show knowing it wasn't long enough. I started it after it was already canceled and had heard the buzz. But I didn't know how right they were until I got into it. There is no way this should have been canceled after only one season, I think a minimum of five was necessary. It was so great and a movie that comes out two years later is not a good way to wrap up such an awesome show. The only reason it isn't higher on my list is that I already knew it was cancelled early.

Anger level: 7.5/10

6. ABC's "The River" (2012)

"The River" is a horror TV show where the crew of a research crew ventures off of their main course down the Amazon river in search of a missing TV explorer. Later, strange, scary, creepy, and paranormal things begin to happen.

As a huge horror movie fan, "The River" was perfect. You got a lot of drama mixed with strange happenings that cause even more tension and drama. It kept me on the edge of my seat which is where I continue to stay because they never renewed it after having set it up perfectly for a second season.

Anger level: 8/10

5. FOX's "The Following" (2013-2015)

Ryan Hardy, played by Kevin Bacon, works for the FBI tracking down a charismatic but violent serial killer who has enlisted the help of other off-the-radar serial killers who have formed a cult.

"The Following" was and continues to be one of my all time favorite shows. It was creepy and action-packed, it was just one really in-depth episode of "Criminal Minds." I was very upset that it was cancelled. The only reason I am not as mad about it's cancellation is because the last season was headed downhill after key characters were killed off and they tried to change too much. I am upset about it's cancellation but I'm more upset that the show went downhill after its first season.

Anger level: 7.5/10

4. ABC's "Galavant" (2015-2016)

A musical TV show that follows a knight, Galavant, on his quest for true love and a "happily ever after."

If you're a fan of musicals, humor, guest stars, modernizing the medieval period, fourth wall breaks and historical humor, then you would have loved "Galavant." But that's too bad because they cancelled it. "Galavant" made it through two seasons, which is more than I can say for a few shows on this list, but it deserved a third. The plot was not done and the characters still had a lot of growing to do. Also they didn't even get to give it the final musical number it deserved because it was just never renewed. I want a finale!

Anger level: 8/10

3. NBC's "The Event" (2010-2011)

After his girlfriend disappears and he decides to look for her, Sean Walker learns about a government conspiracy that goes all the way up to the president and may involve people from another planet living among us as humans.

I was and still am very upset about this cancellation. This show was very suspenseful and I got very attached to the characters and intriguing plot. What made me very angry about it was that there were a huge reveal, plot twist and great set up for the next season in the last episode.

Anger level: 9.5/10

2. Lifetime's "The Lottery" (2014)

After a fertility crisis, no one can reproduce and the world is headed for extinction, but scientists were able to create 100 embryos and a lottery is held to see which women can raise the future of the world.

"The Lottery" didn't just have a compelling plot; it had corruption and bureaucracy, which made it all the better. There was so much that made up this show, which was what made it so good. What makes me even more mad about its cancellation is that the plot was reaching a climax and then I was just left with no answers and no resolution. I don't know the outcome of the characters' lives or the lottery, and that's what makes its cancellation so terrible.

Anger level: 9/10

1. NBC's "Revolution" (2012-2014)

15 years earlier, a blackout wiped out all of the power in the world. Now a group of revolutionaries aims to overthrow the current oppressive government while trying to find out the truth about the blackout.

"Revolution" was sci-fi, action, drama and everything you could want in a TV show. It lasted two seasons and still only skimmed the surface of the cause of the blackout. The plot continued to complicate, making me more and more excited each week until one day it stopped. It was not announced that the final episode would be the final episode until it was over, and it left a huge cliffhanger in preparation for a season that never came.

Anger level: 10/10

I have clearly never gotten over the cancellations of some of my favorite shows, and I feel that I would have better accepted them had I gotten advanced notice or had everything been at least semi-warped up.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
