I'm sure everyone has had their fair share of experiences while working with the lovely public. I have never been, I would go so far to say blessed, to not work in some form of customer service. Don't get me wrong, human interaction is wonderful, and it's what we all thrive off of; but there are some people out there that are really just impossible to thrive with. Here are 10 relatable signs that show you have worked with the public.
1. Your first reaction is never actually a smile.
There's actually a pretty good chance you think to yourself, "great, what do you want?"
2. Your second reaction is to smile only because if you don't, you'll never hear the end of it from your boss.
We've all been down this road right? "Susan, you have to smile to everyone. Not just the ones you like."
3. You are slightly positive for a whole 30 seconds when you begin you schpiel on how to help them.
Thinking, "Okay, just run through the normal dialog and maybe it'll be okay."
4. The 30 seconds are over, and you realize you positive attitude is gone.
The customer wants something impossible like usual.
5. While the customer is talking, you think about alternative career paths.
Because sometimes, this s*** ain't worth it!
6. You can admit that after a while of their rambling, you go and get your manager because the customer refuses to understand that his or her request is beyond impossible.
Some of us might even be able to admit that you even lead the customer on by acting as if the manager can actually fix the impossible (really never happens).
7. You can also admit that the second someone begins to say they have a problem, you immediately just go find a manager because you just really don't want to hear it.
Don't lie, we have all done it!
8. As an employee, you want to shine bright and stand out against your co-workers, but not too bright that you get assigned all the hard tasks or difficult customers.
Shining bright often leads to a nice reward anyway, and you smugly accept the reward that you convinced yourself not to go for.
9. In the most extreme cases, you get promoted to being a manager!
OOO YAY! How exciting?! I have a real title now!
10. You realize you hate being a manager because everyone below you does everything that was described in the first 8 points.
Now you have no excuse to behave like such a fun-hater, and you have to try extremely hard to enjoy the public.
So, whatever your experiences are working in customer relations, we all know that we've encountered some, if not all, of these emotions at one point or another.
