Studying abroad lets you take in a new culture by seeing the world at a new perspective. You learn so much about yourself and all the possibilities life has to offer. Here is how to broaden your perspective when deciding to study abroad.
Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves. – Henry David Thoreau
Beware Of The Pick-Pocketing
Gypsies are real and they can spot you out. Bring a backpack or leave your valuables out of reach.
Embrace The Jet Lag
Do not fall asleep the first chance you get. It will be one of the hardest things especially when you see a bed. Try and walk it out. Begin your experience right away.
Attempt The New Language
Being respectful as you can in a non-English speaking country is key. Learn the basics before leaving. A simple, "hello, how are you?" can go a long way.
Learn To Use A Map
You are going to get lost. It is inevitable. Successfully knowing how to use a map is important because you are not always going to have WIFI for a GPS. However, taking that wrong turn might lead to a beautiful opportunity.
Stay Off Your Phone
Let yourself step out of the virtual world and continue to step towards reality.
Say "YES"
Let loose and say "yes" on every chance you get. Do not have "what ifs" or "I don't know" come across you.
Take Risks
Push yourself to do things you would not normally do. Jump off that cliff, eat that snail and do not look back.
Take Side Trips
Do as much as you can in as little amount of time you can. Flights abroad are much cheaper than in the US. Book that flight and hotel as soon as possible.
Pack Little
You are going to shop so you are going to need room. Learn to pack the essentials and do not overthink about what you need.
Make Friends From All Over
The people you will meet all around the world will definitely change your life. Go out and meet someone. You will have those deep drunken conversations, you will laugh until you cannot simply breathe and you will fall in love.
