Finally! You're back at school and ready for syllabus week (uh, I mean classes) to start. A new year and fresh start lay ahead of you and you're more ready than ever to get the ball rolling back at college, and what better way to do so than by celebrating (uh, I mean organizing your planner) during syllabus week - AKA the first week of "classes," where, if you're lucky, not much work is assigned. But what is really going through a college student's mind during this week? Here's 10 thoughts you might find yourself having:
1. "Must. See. Friends."
Forget unpacking, you need to see your friends like *yesterday* and as soon as you arrive back at school you'll most likely drop your stuff off and head over to check out all of your friends' new places (which you will also kick yourself for later when it's the night before your first 8 a.m. and you can't find anything). You'll run and scream and jump and hug and catch up on three months worth of gossip and it will be just as magical as if you hadn't seen them in years.
2. "Must. Make. Plans. Now."
After reuniting with all your friends, your next step is to make as many plan as possibly for the upcoming week. Every second of everyday must be filled with something to do. After all, you do have to make up for three months of not hanging out.
3. "Who. Is. That. Boy?!"
You're sitting in your first class of the week, and naturally you pick a spot near the back so you can scope out the scene, and you notice a guy you've never seen before. This is when you make your mental notes (or a doodle of mystery boy's name in your planner) to switch seats immediately and accidentally "forget" to bring a pen to the next class. You just *have* to get to know this guy.
4. "This class is going to suck. Big time."
The first week of classes is a great time to feel out what the rest of your semester is going to be like. Sometimes we aren't all so lucky as to have our dream schedule and we might get stuck with a professor who talks so fast we can hardly understand him, or a class that is 99% based on attendance, or a class with weekly pop quizzes, or, God-forbid, a gen-ed. class filled entirely with freshman. Take this week to see what fits with you and what doesn't. Stay on track, but don't overload yourself with something that you think will stretch you too thin.
5. "Bye-bye bank account."
Between books that are $200 a piece, school supplies, groceries, and other necessary fundamentals to survive sylly week, your bank account is drained. Maybe find some time during this week to job-hunt and make back some of that money that you'll undoubtedly need later in the semester for all those late-night fast food runs.
6. "I got an email. What's that?"
You hear your phone buzz and look down only to see that it's an email from one of your professors. An unpleasant reminder that the actual school part of school is back in session.
7. "Welp. Back to eating food that tastes like cardboard."
Say sayonara to nice home-cooked meals and hello again to frozen, cardboard meals. In addition to reuniting with your BFF's, you also get to reunite with your other good friends Easy Mac and Raman Noodles.
8. "How do I work the washer and dryer, again?"
You can also say so long to the days of mom and dad doing your laundry and folding it and putting it away for you. Just remember, don't mix anything pink with your whites!
9. "Ugh, icebreakers."
Get ready for a solid 90 minutes of "I'm from XYZ, my favorite color is XYZ, and I'm majoring in XYZ." Personally I find one solid answer and stick with it for all of classes. It will never get any less annoying as the years go by.
10. "Is it winter break?"
'Nough said. Good luck this semester, my fellow students.
