10 Thoughts Everyone Has During A Commencement Ceremony

At some point in your lifetime, you have probably attended a graduation ceremony of some sort: Kindergarten, middle school, high school, or college. At the longer ones, maybe high school or college, there were probably some things that took place the made you question what was going on. So no matter if you are the graduate, in the audience, or providing the music, here are 10 thoughts that go through ones' head at a commencement ceremony.

1. "How many people are graduating?"

The graduates start filing in; they keep coming and coming and coming. There are so many of them that when you look out into the sea of people, you only see graduation caps and gowns?

2. "What does this speech have to do with anything?"

The speeches are great and all, but sometimes it is super easy to get distracted and lost amid all the speeches. Good luck trying to stay awake through them all!

3. "What am I going to do with my life?"

Congratulations! You worked hard, studied (haha), and now you have a diploma. So what are you going to do with it? Good luck in the real world!

4. "I don't know half of these people."

You have your group of close friends, then you have the groups of people with whom you had class, then the ones that you casually saw once in a while around campus....and then everyone else.

5. "I didn't realize our dean was that old."

You saw him or her once or twice in your four (plus) years on campus, but you didn't realize that they were the dean. They are pretty cute, though.

6. "I'm hungry."

If you were the graduate, your call time was super early. If you are attending the graduation, you probably had to arrive early to get the good seats at try to save some too! This ceremony isn't going to be quick and you are going to get hungry.

7. "I wonder where my family is sitting."

You're the graduate and you look up into the stands to see if you even have a shot at finding your family. Talk about a needle in a haystack!

8. "I hope my family doesn't do something embarrassing when they call my name."

It is finally your turn to walk at graduation.....but you are terrified that your family is going to do something embarrassing. You're praying that they don't, but you just never quite know what they are going to do.

9. "I hate 'Pomp and Circumstance.'"

Everyone hates this song. If there is a person in the world that truly likes this song, get their autograph and take a selfie with them. This song is the ban of graduation's existence.

10. "Freedom!!!!"

YOU DID IT!! Congratulations! Enjoy your day!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
