Syllabus week—for some it's the transition from winter break to the start of the semester that gives them the chance to get ahead on assignments and start building good rapport with their professors. For others, it's an easy excuse to get blackout drunk everyday of the week without facing any real (academic) consequences. Although no two students spend their first week back the same, we all have to transition from binge watching Netflix all day to actually going to class. Here are some thoughts all college students have during syllabus week.

1. How late can I set my alarm to get the maximum amount of sleep while still giving myself maximum time to get ready?

Over break we were used to rolling out of bed whenever we wanted to and not having to worry about getting ready because we were home and well, our parents think we're beautiful even with bed head and makeup from the night before. This whole getting up and looking presentable thing is going to take some getting used to.

2. Is it weird if I walk and eat breakfast at the same time?

No, it's totally not weird. The equation for setting the alarm didn't leave time for breakfast, so it looks like it will be served on-the-go today. Just don't stare, okay?

3. When is this class over?

It's been approximately 10 minutes, and I'm over it. Why did I take this class? How did this professor get a 7.5 on Rate My Professor? On the hotness scale? They clearly need to update their website.

4. I think I just walked into the wrong room.

Bio-what? I'm a broadcast journalism major, and I have successfully been avoiding science classes since high school. There is no way I'm supposed to be in here. Ugh, of all times to sit in the front.

5. I'm already hungry again.

Why did I think it was a good idea not to schedule my lunch until 1 p.m.? It's only 9 a.m. and the only thing I can think about is how far away I am from the Union. Do you think they would deliver?

6. Why is that girl in full hair and makeup?

Are you trying to make the rest of us look bad? Why are you doing this to me? I remember when I was young and full of life.

7. I think I'm in love with my professor.

Not in a weird way, but in a I-think-we're-going-to-have-a-fantastic-semester-together kind of way. I love this subject, and I can tell they do too. Taking a silent vow to always work hard in this class.

8. Who are you?

There's always that awkward moment when someone knows who you are but you have literally no idea who they are. It's college, it's nearly impossible to remember every person you've ever met. Just smile, nod and go on with your day.

9. Why is everyone going out tonight?

It's a Monday night, what's even going on? Why do people do this to themselves?

10. I just realized I don't have class until the afternoon

Two words: Game changer.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
