Living in the college dorms is a once in a lifetime experience that most college students are required to do. Although you may think it is impossible to miss anything about a 15x15 space, you'll never forget the memories made in your cramped room. Having your bed, desk, bathroom, closet and kitchen all in one place may seem overwhelming at first... But as the end of the school year comes closer, you'll realize the dorms weren't so bad after all. To all of the dorm-livers, here are the top things you will miss when it's all over.
1. Having your bathroom cleaned.
Between you and your other hall mates, the bathroom is more than likely to be disgusting after just a few hours. Luckily, the bathroom is cleaned every morning without you having to do anything but remove your personal items. This is a luxury you will only get to experience in the dorms-- next year you will be scrubbing down your own toilet.
2. Living in the same building as all your best friends.
This is perhaps the thing you will miss most about living in the dorms. Never again in your life will you be able to walk down the hall or up the stairs to barge into your friend's room without warning them.
3. Having your fridge, microwave and food all within arms reach.
Although this initially sounds like a bad thing, there is no greater feeling than rolling out of bed just a step away from your Keurig. In fact, there is never a reason to get out of bed because you can easily access all of your snacks and drinks from you elevated dorm bed.
4. No mandatory chores.
When you go visit home and your parents ask you to clean or do the dishes you will desperately wish you were back in your dorm room with no responsibilities.
5. Your RA.
You will most definitely miss your RA's random checking up on you and acting as your own personal babysitter for the school year.
6. You get a roommate.
This could either make or break your dorm experience. If you're fortunate enough, you will become best friends with your roommate and feel comfortable enough to use all their stuff and wear their clothes without them caring.
7. Every item you don't have is easily borrowed.
Forks? Ranch? Crayons? One of your neighbors will surely have exactly what you are looking for.
8. You're not in charge of paying bills.
Between the meal plans and not being responsible for rent payments, living in the dorms makes everything feel FREE! This will be the only year of your adult life you do not have to pay close attention to your budgeting.
9. Every class, restaurant and store are within walking distance.
Living in the center of campus is the most convenient aspect of living in the dorms. Getting to class on time, eating and shopping is much easier for you than the students who live off campus.
10. Overhearing drunken conversations in the hall in the middle of the night.
Whether it be crying, screaming or an angry RA, there is always something worth witnessing in the dorm halls.
