1. Family is everything.
During those tricky teenage years, we sometimes think that our family is out to get us. However, as we mature, we realize that our families are our biggest blessings. Call your siblings, parents, and even grandparents more often.
2. Taking our electronics away was not the worst thing our parents did to us.
Do you remember when you got “grounded” and your parents took your flip phone away for a week and you thought it was pure torture? You should actually thank them for that. Those punishments made us play outside and learn some social skills. Today, in any direction we look, people have their heads stuck in their phones. It is hard to believe that some kids only play outside during recess.
3. College classes are mandatory.
The cartoons on TV lead us all to believe that once you got to college, it was a free for all and you could go to class as you please. Professors actually have attendance policies, and if you miss more than allowed, you will start losing letters from your grade.
4. Car maintenance matters.
Checking your oil and other fluids could save your vehicle’s life. If you don’t treat your car right, you will end up having to spend whole paychecks fixing car problems that could have been avoided.
5. Time Flies.
We often laugh at our aunts and uncles when they say things like “Man, I’m getting old." but in reality, so are we. My first “Man, I’m getting old” moment was a few days ago when I realized that my cousin is almost 14. I remember the day he was born and playing with him as a baby.
6. The Value of a Dollar.
Who knew that toilet paper and trash bags were so EXPENSIVE? The first time I had to buy my own toilet paper and trash bags. I died a little inside. I definitely can’t afford the scented super stretchy trash bags my mom uses.
7. The Great Value brand is not much different.
When looking at prices on the shelf, we always see the cheaper store brand and the more expensive name brand. If you buy the store brand, you can pay almost half the price as you would for the name brand. Do that in most cases. However, I still only buy Kraft Mac n Cheese.
8. Your siblings are not your worst enemies.
They’re actually your biggest support system and are always there for you whenever you need them. With that being said, they are still annoying sometimes.
9. Your social media pages are not there to make you look cute.
They’re actually for networking. Be careful what you post, because you may be eliminated from a job search because of a post you made 10 years ago. Simple tip: don’t post pictures you wouldn’t want your grandma to see.
10. Your identity.
You learn who you are and who you want to be. Life gets hard sometimes, but those are the best times to find out who you really are. Although you may struggle sometimes, you will always be able to pick yourself back up.
