Going home for winter break is usually a little rough for college students. You're super excited to be home for the holidays, but at the same time it's a lot different than the independent and fun life you live at college. Sure, you don't have to worry about papers, tests, and walking to class in the freezing snow. At the same time though, you're under your parents roof again, and their rules are normally a little stricter than the ones you create for yourself at school. Here's a few things you'll have to deal with while home for the holidays:
1. Seeing old high school friends everywhere
It's a good thing if you see the friends you stayed in touch with when you go home. However, you're bound to run into a few of the people you didn't really like. You'll have to put on the "Oh my gosh I haven't seen you in so long, how's college?!" front, and then pray you won't have to see them again.
2. Missing your irreplaceable college best friends
This one speaks for itself. I MISS YOU BEST FRIENDS!
3. You're not living independently
There's like other people living in your house with you right now. You have to like take them into account when making decisions, what is this life? It's kind of rough, living on your own and not having to tell everyone what you're doing, where you're going, how you're feeling 24/7 is actually super nice.
4. You have actual rules
Coming home at 4 in the morning isn't exactly what your parents want you doing when you're at home. Hello midnight curfew, I haven't seen you since high school.
5. Shall we make a list of the endless questions you are going to be asked?
-Do you have a boyfriend? What's his name, where's he from, what does he do, does he treat you right, is he cute?!
-How are your grades?
-So what are you going to do with your life?
-How's so and so doing?
6. You can kind of relax, but not really
Yeah you're not going to class but you're catching up with old friends, going shopping, seeing your entire family, applying for internships, getting your hair cut, helping around the house, running errands... Do I really need to continue?
7. You forgot that certain pair of jeans at school
Whatever clothing item it is, you forgot it and now you're dying. How are you supposed to look perfect for that Christmas party when half of your closet is still at home. It's really too bad you couldn't just pack up everything and bring it home, but I guess that would be a little excessive.
8. Apparently it's not acceptable to sleep in till noon
You want to catch up on sleep, but your parents will never seem to understand how you can sleep in till noon every morning.
9. You end up spending more money than you're used to, and your bank account doesn't appreciate it
You're home and you have to eat out at your favorite restaurants. Plus the mall is so close to your house and you really need some new clothes. Then there's all the fun holiday events going on in your hometown. Pretty soon, your bank account says you have $10.85 left and you hit that oh sh** moment.
10. Being with the most important people in your life
Okay, this one obviously isn't a problem. You get to spend time with your family for a month and that's awesome no matter how crazy it can get. Be sure to tell them you love them and appreciate them because I guarantee you get too caught up at school to really tell them as much as they deserve to hear it.
