When I was scheduling for my spring classes, I made the decision to also register for a summer class. At the time, I thought that this would such a good idea because I would still stay a few credits ahead and wouldn't need to overwhelm myself in the fall with an already challenging course load. I was thinking that if I could handle taking 15 credits at once, what's three in the summer? Well, boy do I regret that!
I am not one to usually mind school work. I don't procrastinate. I just do what I have to do and get it done. Usually when I start homework, I do it all day until I have finished everything. I can't relax until I have everything done. If I try to watch Netflix, read, or do something fun, I feel guilty because I know that I am not using my time wisely and end up doing homework instead. In the summer, this sucks. I would rather spend my days doing things that I enjoy before I go to work and before my summer is over, but instead I work on homework. Plus, my vacations are causing me to stress! Vacations are supposed to be relaxing not stress inducing. I have several assignments due every week for my class, but because of my vacation I need to complete twice as many the week before, in order to turn them in on time. On top of this, this summer class just feels torturous. I don't know if it's because it's topics that I do not have an interest in, or if it's because I would rather be doing so many other things with my time. This summer class has made me decide that I will never torture myself with another one ever again.
However, I have spent some of my time thinking of what I would rather be doing instead of working on my class, so here's a list of things that I would rather be doing with my summer instead of working on my class!
1. Swimming!
Yes, I have had to pass up on this several times already to work on assignments, and it's very disappointing.
2. Netflix
I don't get too much time to just lay around without something needing to get done, and during the school year this happens even less so summer is the perfect time for binge watching Netflix....unless you take a summer class.
3. Amusement parks
Although I am going to one next week, it means working ahead and making sure that everything is done before I go.
4. Canoeing
Because it's a great day down the river with my whole family and a summer tradition.
5. Watching new movies
My last article was about all of the awesome movies that came or are coming out this summer, so trust me when I say I would much rather be at the drive-in than working on this class.
6. Reading
Because just like stated above, during the school year I do not have the time to read just my own pleasure. The summer would serve as the perfect opportunity if I wasn't spending it reading, Western Civilization.
7. Exercising
I was going to Insanity and getting into working out regularly....until my class hit. Now I am right back to being a couch potato and eating whatever sounds good. Whoops!
8. Doggie dates
I have a two-year-old golden-doodle who is finally well-behaved enough to take to public places, and would love to be able to take him out more! Fun trips to parks will just have to wait until this class is over.
9. Real dates
Because summer jobs aren't hard enough to work around, now I have to clear my guilty-conscious of this class before I can just relax and have a nice night with my boyfriend. The drive-in could kill two birds with one stone for a date and new movie night, but first class!
10. Writing this article
Because yes, I should be working on my class right now instead of writing this, but this just seemed like a better option.
Thanks for listening to me vent, or day dreaming with me about all the things you could be doing too instead of your summer class! And if you ever think about taking a summer class, think long and hard about if it's really worth giving up the most stress-free months of your life.
