Joining a sorority is probably one of the most exciting parts of your college experience. You gain new friends (in our case, over 100 new friends), you get involved in ways you couldn't in high school, and let's not forget that the parties are pretty sick too. But once you actually get to see the ins and outs of a sorority, you will eventually realize that there are some things you wish you were told before you joined.
- There's more to a sorority than just the social aspect. Sororities can help you get involved in the community around campus and can help with networking after college as well (even though no one actually wants to graduate).
- Recruitment is hell on earth. Eat. Sleep. Recruit. Repeat. For two weeks straight (trust me, I was recruitment chair).
- Clothes will be missing. Always. There will never be a time when you have all your clothes in your closet. It sucks. Get used to it.
- The floor is heaven on earth. Even though clothes go missing, you have 20 more closets to look through. Someone has a cute black crop top, don't worry.
- You won't be best friends with everyone. It's inevitable. There's no possible way you will be best friends with over 100 girls. It's ok that you don't love everyone, not everyone will love you. But you will have your friends and that's what matters.
- Dues are not a plus. Joining a sorority is expensive. Your parents will hate you for spending so much money on apparel, but it's worth it.
- Chapter is also not a plus. Even though it's only once a week, it always seems so hard to get out of bed for it, even if you live on the floor. Especially when it's formal.
- You become close with girls in other sororities. Your sorority is like your family away from home. You become friends with fellow presidents and members of other chapters since you're all going through the same things.
- Time management is SUPER important. After you fail all of your classes freshman year from going out every night, you will figure out a way to balance both....eventually.
- These girls are your friends for life. Corny, but so true. They will be your bridesmaids, your shoulder to cry on if that marriage fails, and your soul mates 'til the day you die.
