Sometimes life gets the best of us. I am no different. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed that my only solution is to not leave my bed. I have spent far too long staying in my dorm room, so here are 10 things we can do instead of locking ourselves in our rooms.
1. Go Hiking
I always feel better after a nice nature walk or a little hiking trip. Breathing in the fresh air and taking in the beautiful scenery. In that moment, I know that what I feel is temporary, but what is around me is forever.
2. Write it Out
I was always into poetry, but as I grow mentally, I have found that writing how I feel makes sense, even if it only makes sense to me. Because no matter how bad you are feeling, you are here right now, and if we don't document our lives, those after us may never even know we existed.
3. Drink Tea
Personally, I am obsessed with tea, and Teavana is my favorite store at the local mall. Buy tea that is fruity, because when I feel down in the dumps, a nice cup of blueberry tea can keep me going.
4. Eat Well
Even if your goal isn't to eat healthily and be fit right now, a nice healthy snack will always make you feel better compared to a bag of chips.
5. Go To A Coffee Shop
The local coffee shop in my hometown is one of my favorite places to be. They have art everywhere, relaxing music playing, and all around just positive vibes. Being there always makes my day a little bit better.
6. Go To An Animal Shelter
I love dogs, and I love cats, and I love rabbits. Going to the animal shelter and playing with dogs not only makes you feel better, but the dogs too, and you never know, you might find your new best friend while you're there.
7. Reach Out To A Loved One
Being away for school without a car has made it difficult to go home. I always call my mom when I'm having a bad day, not to talk about my bad day, but just to talk to her. If you can go see that loved one because the company of someone you love is the best company to have.
8. Write A Letter
This kind of goes back to the point I made to write it down, but writing to the thing causing this pain can help you relieve the aggression you are feeling, and you can keep it or discard it, but if it is to someone else, try not to send it out.
9. Look At Old Photographs
Growing I went from a large, very connected family, to being more or less just my immediate family. Though I love my siblings and parents, it can feel especially rough around the holidays when everyone around me has such large family dinners. Looking back at old photographs, do not look into them as wishing it was still like that, but cherishing when it was.
10. Live In The Moment
We all deserve to have the feelings that we feel, even if we wish we didn't feel that way but appreciate that you are here right now, and everything is here right now in this moment. You are meant to be where you are or how you turn out, don't take your days for granted.
