10 Things To Do When You Come Home To San Diego

Coming home from college for summer break can be such a relief. You're back home with the 'rents and the crazy younger siblings and you’re definitely feeling the family love going around. Finals are over and you have no little to no responsible for the next three months. Yeah, you're probably going to be over it in three weeks, but for now enjoy your family, high school friends, dog, cat, or whatever type of animal you have at home. If you’re like me and home in SD for the summer, here are 10 things you need to do

1. Get a California Burrito.

You're back in your homestead and Mexican food is a must. Go to your favorite taco shop and get one because Cal definitely does not have burritos like San Diego does. Although Chipotle and La Burrita can sometimes suffice, those places can’t even compare to the Mexican food in SoCal.

2. Hike Torrey Pines.

It’s so sunny and nice out and summer break is a perfect time to hike in Del Mar. It has been a while since we have all seen the beach and we all need a dose of Vitamin D. We have all spent too much time indoors and studying and need to get back on that tan game.

3. Hang out with your old high school friends.

As much as we have all moved on and made new friends that we all seem to be a lot closer with, you've known these friends for so long and I'm sure they are missing you.

4. Sambazon.

We are back in what it seems to be the acai capital so head down to Sambazon and get the original acai bowls. I'm kind of depressed because they are now like $10, but still they are worth it.

5. Go to Sunset Cliffs for the sunset.

If you live in the La Jolla area, go watch the sunset at Sunset Cliffs. It’s so pretty and for some reason watching the sunset isn’t a huge thing in Berkeley. I definitely miss the everyday ritual of watching the time to make sure I didn’t miss the sunset.

6. Sneak into La Costa Resort.

To all of the Encinitas people, going to the La Costa pool is a must-do in the summer.

7. Go to the beach.

Ahh, we are back in the best place in the world and we can finally go to the beach! As you know, every beach from La Jolla to Carlsbad is absolutely stunning. I’m definitely biased and think Swami’s is the ultimate beach spot, but hit up your favorite one for some fun in the sun.

8. Walk your dog.

If you’re like me, your dog is your best friend. Take your pup to dog beach in Del Mar. They love it!

9. Go jet skiing/kayaking/paddle boarding.

If you’re not much of a surfer, but still love the ocean, go to La Jolla Cove or Mission Beach and rent some jet skis for a couple hours. It is something fun to do when you're bored at home and wishing you were still in Berkeley.

10. Get breakfast at the Pannikin.

I have missed the Pannikin so much. For some weird and unknown reason, Berkeley is lacking cute cafes and trendy breakfast places. Although La Note and Bartavelle are both amazing brunch places, they are expensive and we don't always have time to spend two hours getting breakfast. Berk doesn’t have casual nice places to grab a coffee and some good breakfast, so take advantage of all of the cafes here in SD.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
