From the weather to the food to the overall culture, Rochester, N.Y. is a one-of-a-kind place to be. If you've grown up in Rochester or live in Rochester, here are some things you've probably noticed over the years:

1. You find yourself laughing at the places that go into panic mode over 1 inch of snow.

Six inches of snow? Bring it.

2. Eating garbage is acceptable and often encouraged.

All hail the garbage plate, a classic Rochester staple.

3. Going to Wegmans is basically the equivalent of a high school reunion.

Either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how much you liked high school.

4. Going anywhere near the expressway between the hours of 4 and 6 pm is basically inflicting a slow and painful death.

Every single time.

5. When leaving the house, it’s necessary to prepare for all types of weather, because it changes FAST.

Sunny one minute, wintery tundra the next. We've all experienced it.

6. You always have to explain where Rochester is to people that aren’t from Rochester.

“No, Rochester doesn’t border Canada”

7. Explaining how the towns and cities are related can be a bit confusing as well.

"So the towns are like boroughs?"

8. At one point or another you’ve gotten made fun of for the way you say your “As”

“Oh, you’re from Raaaaahchester?”

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
