10 Things To Thank Your Best Friend For
Mary Kate Crotty

Dear Forever Friend,

Consider this me formally thanking you for all that you have done for me, and all that I know that you will do for me in the future. I do not get the chance to thank you enough for your support in my day to day life, and I want to make sure you know that all you do for me does not go unnoticed. Here are the 10 things that I will remember to thank you for in the future!

1. For putting up with my bad jokes and dumb sense of humor.

Whether it is a bad pun or a poor attempt at trying to make you laugh, thank you for enduring it all and being somewhat nice when you tell me that I am not really that funny. Even though most times I know that my jokes are not as funny as I think they are, you always laugh at them with me. Regardless of how bad my joke is, I know that I can always count on you to tell me that you thought it was good. Thank you for always laughing at my humor. Or at me.

2. For welcoming me with open arms when I need a hug the most.

You’ve always been there for me to run to with any problem. I can't thank you enough for holding me when something tragic happened and for helping me through all of my problems, regardless of the size. You are always so kind and compassionate to me; even if you think that I am overreacting, you always are there as a shoulder to cry on. Thank you for being so supportive and patient and being there for me no matter what time of day or night it is. Knowing that I can lean on you and that you can help me through my problems always makes me feel better.

3. For always giving me good advice, even if it means calling me out.

Regardless of what is causing me problems, I know I can talk to you about it and that you will be honest with me, even if being honest means yelling at me until I realize that I need to change how I am acting. I know that it must be hard because you do not like to really yell at anyone, but when you yell at me on those rare occasions it really makes me think and change my attitude. Thank you for being the only person who can yell at me until I get my act together, because without you, I know that I would have nobody to hold me back when I go too far.

4. For listening to all of my secrets and keeping them safe.

The number of secrets you have about me in your possession is insane. Some I told you entirely accidently, others I told you because I needed someone to tell because I simply could not keep things to myself anymore (good or bad), and no matter what, you always listen and offer advice. You always keep my secrets safe with you, and I never have to worry about you telling them to anyone. You keeping my secrets shows me just how much you care, and I think you are amazing because of it. I am glad that I have you to confide in.

5. For watching your favorite shows with me.

Whether it is just one episode or a whole season, I always look forward to watching TV shows with you. I know that half the time we don’t really watch them, or when we do watch them for hours on end it is because we are avoiding homework that we probably should do, but that is okay. I love watching shows with you because it means we get to sit together and hang out, no matter how stressed we are. Plus, it is always fun to comment on the drama of the show, or to laugh at a joke we make about it. Shamelessly binge watching "Dance Moms" with you is always the highlight of my day.

6. For believing in me when I do not believe in myself.

When times are tough I know that I can turn to you and you will be there with a hug and a smile. You always encourage me to keep moving forward and you believe in me and that always helps me feel better and accomplish more. You always know just what to say to make me feel better when I am feeling sad, or how to make me realize that I really need to lighten up and be less hard on myself about past transgressions. I know that when things look darkest, I can look to you for guidance and support, even if I do not believe in myself. Knowing I have someone in my corner no matter what makes me feel better even on my darkest days. From the quotes and pictures that you text me, to the wise words you have for me in person, you encourage me to be the best I can be, and I will always be thankful for that and for you.

7. For all the laughs.

You always somehow manage to make me laugh, even when I don’t want to. You know just what to say or do to make me laugh when I feel like crying, and you don’t even have to say anything at all to do it. You can just look at me from across the room and we both start to laugh, even if there is nothing funny going on around us. You always make me happy, and spending time with you when I am anything but ok is something I know will make me feel like myself again. Thank you for all the jokes, late night movie watching, funny texts and Snapchat pictures, dumb videos of animals doing cute things, and for always being able to return my sarcastic jokes.

8. For making me go to class even when I don’t want to.

Even though I know it must get annoying, you always come down to my room and make sure that I am actually going to class, instead of deciding that I can sleep through the lecture I have that day. Although I am always mad at you for barging into my room and jumping on my bed until I get up, I really do appreciate you coming and checking on me. Even when you are quoting "Frozen" very loudly in my ear and laying on top of me to recreate the scene in the movie where Ana wakes Elsa up to play, it always makes me smile. Although we both know that I would very much rather sleep through my lecture, I am glad that I have a human alarm clock like you to make sure that I get an education.

9. For taking care of me when I am sick.

Somehow you can just tell that I am getting sick, even before I can, and, as a result, you always manage to take care of me, even when I make it hard. From making me food and bringing it to me, to tucking me into my bed and forcing me to take a nap even if I have work to do, you always do your best to make sure I am being cared for. You are my mom on campus, and even though I give you a hard time about it, I really am thankful for it. You take care of me when I don’t really take the best care of myself, and that is something that I will remember to thank you for next time it happens, which will probably be soon.

10. For making me into the best version of myself I can be.

You do so much to push me to be successful, and I do not tell you how much I appreciate it. From making sure I go to bed at a reasonable time, to bringing me food when I forget to eat because I am too stressed to leave my room to go to the dining hall, you always take care of me and make sure that I am on the right track. You push me to work as hard as I can in school, and to do all my homework and make sure that I am ahead in life, and that care and dedication from you means the world to me. You are the second mom that I was lucky enough to meet, and that will always be one of the things I am most thankful for!

Thank you for everything you do for me, and I promise that I will thank you more in the future because you definitely deserve to know how lucky I feel to know that I have a best friend who is as wonderful as you are. So here’s to you, pal. Thank you for everything, and I cannot wait to spend the rest of our college years together. Thank you for being my best friend, and for letting me be yours.

Thank you for everything, and thank you for being you!

Love always,

Your best friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
