10 Things to Do On A Rainy Day in College

10 Things to Do On A Rainy Day in College

So, like, sometimes.. it rains. Wild, I know. But when it rains and you're stuck on campus without anything to do, time passes slower than the cafeteria line moves when they're serving a baked potato bar. Luckily, there are some things you can do that are both relaxing and exciting to pass the time.

1. Draw or Paint

I might be biased here, being an art major and a general sucker for anything creative, but this is honestly one of my favorite things to do when there's dreary weather. The rain is a therapeutic background sound to fuel your creative juices and pull out some killer artwork. No one is judging your work, so feel free to go crazy.

2. Read a Book

Books still exist, it's wild. Our generation doesn't take full advantage of books anymore unless we're required to read them for class. Books are like, movies for your brain, I think they said that in iCarly once. But seriously, read a book.

3. Watch Netflix

You probably do this everyday anyway whether or not it's raining. It's fine, so do I. But when the whether provides that perfect dimly lit environment for you to binge watch Greys Anatomy without having to hear the sound of you eating popcorn because of the pounding rain, there is honestly no greater gift.

4. Call Your Mom

Seriously, call your mom. She's probably missing you right now. You should do this even when it's not raining, but since it is, there's no better time.

5. Learn Something New

Take this as a sign to learn something new aside from your classes. Learn how to make an omelette, how to build a fort, how to cook ramen without setting the fire alarm off at 2 am. The possibilities are endless.

6. Listen to Music

You know that album that came out and everyone keeps telling you to listen to it but you're so stuck on listening to the same old songs? Listen to that album. It probably takes a half hour to an hour to listen to a full album depending on the artist. Kick back and finally catch up with the rest of civilization.

7. Treat Yo'Self

College days seem longer than any other days, even if you only have two hours of class. Time really does drag and we find ourselves without any time to unwind. Give yourself a break by brewing up a steaming cup of coffee and your favorite snack and just don't think about your responsibilities. But you didn't hear that from me.

8. Write

Some people are gifted writers, some people aren't necessarily. But just like art, that doesn't mean you can't do it. Take an hour to journal about your week, write a poem, a song, a haiku, anything. Get your thoughts on paper instead of letting them crowd your mind.

9. Organize Yo'Self

So, like, when's the last time you cleaned your room? Maybe take this time to clean up your drawers and get some laundry done, this will give you a chance to sleep in this weekend.

10. Take Pictures

Honestly, rain is so aesthetically pleasing so take a picture and put it on Instagram because you'll really rake in the likes

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
